Why is a business tycoon known for marketing speaking pets funding Amber's academic job in animal psychology? The more Amber learns, the more she is troubled by the idea of non-human intelligence, which she starts to see as a threat to humanity. But talking animals are far from being her only concern. Machines have been developed with a capacity for communication that rivals our own. Messages have been sent to the stars, seeking intelligent life outside of earth. With the help of security consultant Francis, Amber starts to uncover the extent of the threat. As their feelings for each other grow stronger, Amber and Francis are drawn into a dangerous race against those who ruthlessly pursue non-human intelligence for their own success.
