- The Life of James Fitzgibbon

Bag om A Veteran of 1812

James Fitzgibbon, a prominent Irish-born was captured at Egmont-op-Zee in 1799 and was a prisoner of war until 1802. He then went to Canada with the 49th and remained there, eventually becoming Colonel of the 1st Toronto Militia. He was one of the greatest and most venturesome leaders in the War of 1812. The commander of a troop dubbed the Bloody Boys, he practiced a form of guerilla warfare, at the time considered highly unconventional.
