Beskrivelse af A Sicilian Romance
A Sicilian Romance is a gothic novel written by Ann Radcliffe, first published in 1790. The story is set in the late 16th century and centers around the Mazzini family, who live in a castle in Sicily. The head of the family, Ferdinand, marries a beautiful and mysterious woman named Julia, who is rumored to have a dark past. Julia's behavior becomes increasingly erratic and strange, causing her husband and stepdaughters to fear for their safety. Meanwhile, Julia's brother, the sinister Duke de Mazzini, plots to take over the family's fortune and property. The novel is filled with suspenseful and supernatural elements, including secret passages, ghosts, and hidden identities. A Sicilian Romance is considered one of the earliest examples of gothic literature and is known for its vivid descriptions of the Italian landscape and its eerie atmosphere.Having ceased to sing, her fingers wandered over the lute in melancholy symphony, and for some moments she remained lost in the sweet sensations which the music and the scenery had inspired. She was awakened from her reverie, by a sigh that stole from among the trees, and directing her eyes whence it came, beheld--Hippolitus! A thousand sweet and mingled emotions pressed upon her heart, yet she scarcely dared to trust the evidence of sight. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
