Beskrivelse af A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is a novel written by James Joyce and published in 1916. It tells the story of Stephen Dedalus, a young Irishman who struggles to find his identity and place in the world as he grows up. The novel is divided into five chapters, each one representing a different stage in Stephen's life, from his childhood to his early adulthood. The first chapter introduces us to Stephen as a young boy growing up in Dublin, where he attends a strict Catholic school. We see his struggles with religion and his desire to break free from the constraints of his upbringing. In the second chapter, Stephen is a teenager in boarding school, where he begins to explore his artistic talents and his attraction to women. In the third chapter, Stephen attends university in Dublin, where he becomes involved in politics and begins to question his faith even more. The fourth chapter sees Stephen leave Ireland for Paris, where he experiences a new sense of freedom and indulges in his artistic passions. Finally, in the fifth chapter, Stephen returns to Ireland, where he must confront his past and decide what kind of artist he wants to be.Throughout the novel, Joyce uses stream-of-consciousness narration to delve into Stephen's thoughts and feelings, as well as to explore themes of religion, identity, and artistic expression. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is considered a modernist masterpiece and a seminal work of Irish literature.Once upon a time and a very good time it was there was a moocow coming down along the road and this moocow that was coming down along the road met a nicens little boy named baby tuckoo His father told him that story: his father looked at him through a glass: he had a hairy face. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
