Beskrivelse af A Mortal Antipathy
""A Mortal Antipathy"" by Oliver Wendell Holmes is a novel about the complex relationship between two individuals, Dr. Edward Jackson and Clara Pemberton. Jackson is a brilliant physician who is known for his innovative techniques and successful surgeries. However, he has a severe phobia of beautiful women, which he calls his ""mortal antipathy."" Clara Pemberton is a wealthy and beautiful woman who comes to Jackson for treatment of a medical condition. Despite her attempts to be friendly, Jackson's fear of her causes him to be rude and dismissive. Over time, Clara becomes determined to overcome Jackson's antipathy and gain his respect. As the two begin to interact more, they develop a deep and complicated relationship that is tested by their respective fears and prejudices. The novel explores themes of love, fear, and the human psyche, and provides a fascinating insight into the medical practices and social norms of the late 19th century.1886. American author, physician and father of Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. He turned from a career as a general practitioner to the academic. He was also a contributor to the Atlantic Monthly (which he named), penning the famous series of Breakfast-table sketches, which are imaginary conversations at a Boston boardinghouse and reflective of Holmes's opinions, charm, and wit. Among his other notable works are three novels presenting a scientific approach to psychological traits, most notably Elsie Venner and this volume A Moral Antipathy.
