Beskrivelse af A Journey from This World to the Next
A Journey From This World To The Next is a novel by Henry Fielding, published in 1743. The book is a satirical allegory that follows the journey of a man named Jacky Harnet, who dies and is taken to the afterlife. The story is divided into two parts: the first part takes place in the world of the living, where Jacky is a thief and a scoundrel. The second part takes place in the afterlife, where Jacky is judged by the gods and sent to either heaven or hell. Throughout the novel, Fielding uses Jacky's journey as a vehicle for social commentary and satire. He critiques the corruption and hypocrisy of the church, the government, and society in general. He also explores themes of morality, redemption, and the nature of the afterlife. The book is written in a lively and humorous style, with vivid descriptions and colorful characters. It is considered one of Fielding's most imaginative works, and a classic of 18th-century literature. We had not been long arrived in our inn, where it seems we were to spend the remainder of the day, before our host acquainted us that it was customary for all spirits, in their passage through that city, to pay their respects to that lady Disease, to whose assistance they had owed their deliverance from the lower world. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
