A day to day journal of Sidney Douglas Way and from two transcripts prepared by K. Jeffery, Way's granddaughter who could read his handwriting and worked with the diaries when they were newer. The Way originals are now extremely difficult to read and are deteriorating rapidly; therefore, primary reliance was placed on the two transcripts. Also the editor was in Japan and the diaries were in Natick, MA, and Annapolis, MD. The original wording and spelling has been retained where possible. Comments by K. Jeffery are enclosed in ( ). Comments by C. Adamson are in [ ]. Information which is different in the two versions are indicated by { }. Such information is only indicated for major differences. The lack of an entry for a given day was left blank for reduction in book size.
