Bag om A Curious Hieroglyphick Bible

A touchstone of eighteenth-century American book illustration, this "curious" children's Bible contains nearly five hundred woodcuts made by American artists. It is the most ambitious woodcut book produced in America up to that time, one of the sixty-five children's book titles produced by the pioneer publisher of children's literature and preeminent early American printer Isaiah Thomas (1749-1831). Only four [original] copies of this remarkable piece of early Americana exist today. This Bible replaces some of the words of the text with pictures in an attempt to tell a story in a direct, simple, and interesting way. -Library of Congress, American Treasures Collection Popular children's Bibles, such as the "Jesus Calling" series, owe a certain heritage to this volume. Other editions of this Bible on the market are poor quality direct fascimile editions, or are reproduced with muddy images compared to those found in the original book. This edition improves and enlarges the original images in the book, while retaining the the age-worn look of the surviving copy.
