Beskrivelse af The Enchanted April
The Enchanted April is a novel written by Elizabeth Von Arnim and published in 1922. The story follows four English women who, feeling unfulfilled in their lives, decide to rent a medieval castle in Italy for the month of April. The women come from different backgrounds and have different reasons for wanting to escape to Italy, but they all share a desire to find happiness and fulfillment. The four women are Lotty Wilkins, Rose Arbuthnot, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs. Fisher. Lotty is a housewife who is tired of her mundane life and yearns for adventure. Rose is a beautiful but unhappy wife who feels neglected by her husband. Lady Caroline is a wealthy socialite who is bored with her glamorous but empty life. Mrs. Fisher is a widow who is set in her ways and believes that the past was better than the present. The women arrive at the castle and are enchanted by its beauty and tranquility. They explore the surrounding countryside and meet the locals, including the handsome and kind landlord, Mr. Briggs. As they spend more time in Italy, the women begin to open up to each other and share their deepest desires and secrets. As the month of April progresses, the women experience a transformation. They become more confident, happy, and fulfilled. Lotty in particular undergoes a significant change and becomes a more assertive and self-assured woman. By the end of the novel, the women have found what they were looking for and return to England with a renewed sense of purpose and joy.The Enchanted April is a charming and uplifting novel that celebrates the beauty of life and the transformative power of friendship and travel. It has been adapted into several films and stage productions and remains a beloved classic of English literature. And indeed Mr. Briggs seemed very much interested. He wanted to hear all about everything she had been doing from the moment she got there. He asked her if she had seen this, that, and the other in the house, what she liked best, which room she had, if she were comfortable, if Francesca was behaving, if Domenico took care of her, and whether she didn't enjoy using the yellow sitting-roomthe one that got all the sun and looked out towards Genoa. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
