Beskrivelse af Stepping Into Missions
Stepping into Missions is a valuable resource for those who are interested in serving the Lord through overseas missions. This book is a good resource for potential missionaries of all ages, especially young people who are deciding how they want to spend their time, money, and resources in serving the Lord. It offers glimpses into the day-to-day lives of missionaries, and the joys and challenges that come along with living in a different culture. The relatable story-telling component and relevant questions at the end of each chapter allows the reader to think critically about weighing the pros and cons of being an overseas missionary. Thanks for letting me read it! - Rachel Joe
Stepping into Missions promises to be an excellent resource for young people interested in Christian service overseas, especially in a Latino context. Jesse speaks from experience through fascinating stories about the practical challenges and blessings of short-term trips as well as lifetime missionary service. This isn't a book on missiology, but it gives a realistic review of the practical side of missions. I would recommend it to any who sense the Lord's calling to Latin America or are evaluating what it would take to serve there. - Aaron Campbell
Stepping Into Missions provides the reader with an entertaining but realistic and up-close narrative highlighting mission life and work, especially pointing out the complexities which can arise over the course of several years and during differing stages of a foreign missions experience. Particularly helpful are the reflection questions at the close of each chapter which encourage the readers to investigate for themselves the issues explored, challenging them to formulate their own more informed ideology for approaching or understanding missions. - Hannah VaLeu
Stepping into Missions was an engaging and thought provoking read. The workbook / reflective style paired well with the narrative, complementing each other with clear purpose. The story helped contextualize its questions, and I found the pairing leading me to honestly give the questions thought. The broad timeline covering the lives of these fictional missionaries brought me to consider new aspects and problems of missionary life, ones that I might have briefly encountered before, but now began to supply what I might do. I can say that the book definitely accomplished its goal in me, and find it quite easy to assume that it would do so for others. - Isaiah Magnuson
I love that Stepping into Missions presents relatively ordinary people living relatively ordinary lives as the main characters who eventually decide to go into missions. The book is written-because of the authors' experience-with a full and practical understanding of life as a missionary, complete with joys and sorrows, comedic moments and stressful scenarios-and all of the repetitiousness of daily life that happens in between. This helped me to see past the grand stories of famous missionaries we most often hear about-Hudson Taylor or Jim Elliot for example-and know that it doesn't necessarily take great charisma or an infectious, dynamic personality to become an overseas missionary. Whether this is comforting or terrifying is up to you; but this book helped me to think more soberly and clearly of what it means to be called, as a Christian, to a missional life-overseas or otherwise-and that overseas missionaries are people too. - Naomi DesChane
