  • af Dieter T. Hessel

Living with the consequences of modern Western abuse of the environment has alerted many to the need to change not simply their habits but also their worldview. A true faith-centered eco-justice ethic, assert the contributors to this volume, will recognize the intrinsic links between social justice questions and environmental ones. It will also demand reassessment of fundamental assumptions - many of them from Christian theology - that stand behind Western social, economic, and technological patterns. Introduced by Hessel's illuminating assessment of specific environmental challenges, the theologians in this volume rethink aspects of Christian doctrines, lifestyle, and spirituality. They tackle key environmental issues. And together they pioneer a theological perspective that moves beyond anthropocentrism to a new center in creation itself.

  • af Martin Hengel

Here Professor Hengel argues with a wealth of documentation that the traditional views of the origin and tradition of the Gospel of Mark have far more to be said for them than has been usually allowed by modern New Testament scholars. He argues that the tradition contained in the Gospel is that handed down by Peter through Mark, and that the Gospel was written in Rome in AD 69. The famous note by Papias quoted in Eusebius' 'Church History' is not to be dismissed, but has every appearance of being reliable. Further evidence in support of this view can be found in a detailed consideration of the titles of the Gospels, which must have been attached to the Gospels at a very early stage, if only to identify them. An appendix, by the distinguished classical philologist Wolfgang Schadewaldt, on 'The Reliability of the Synoptic Tradition, ' is used to add further weight to the case. With his customary learning, Professor Hengel has produced a powerful argument which those who have held more radical views than his own will have to consider very carefully indeed if they are to continue to carry conviction

  • af Uuras Saarnivaara
    253,95 kr.

As the title indicates, this book deals with the question: When did Luther discover the gospel of free justification and salvation, and what did this discovery mean?

  • af Robin Scroggs
    198,95 kr.

Without denying the importance of the future and without simplistically assuming all is right in the church, Robin Scroggs emphasizes and celebrates the affirmations Paul makes about the believer's eschatological life in the present as fulfillment of God's original intent in creation.

  • af John Howard Yoder
    333,95 kr.

This book is a masterwork from a master theological craftsman. John Howard Yoder is perhaps the best worker in Christian theology in America today, though his modesty (and others' presumption) still hides his accomplishment from some. Here, answering the question raised by The Politics of Jesus, Yoder addresses the major challenge facing American churches--the authentic mode of Christian existence in society today. In full command of his material, Yoder provides a powerfully stated, radically catholic answer. --James Wm. McClendon Jr. Fuller Theological Seminary It has been Yoder's vocation to proclaim a gospel of biblical realism that challenges both the biblicism of many other self-identified 'evangelicals' and the pretenses of 'political realism' of many of his theological and secular contemporaries. He has insisted on a coherent witness that is at once 'sectarian' and 'catholic, ' even while it celebrates both the diaspora of Judaism-become-Christianity and the radical New Testament theology of the cross. These essays from several decades all testify to 'the politics of Jesus' that transforms conventional assumptions about both power and weakness. They combine to offer what Yoder calls 'one holistic, Christological, paradigmatic proclamation: servanthood, enemy love, forgiveness. --Alan Geyer Wesley Theological Seminar
