Excerpt from "Paydays" short story: World War II was going on and everyone was contributing to the war effort, including lady steelworkers. Many of these lady steelworkers were from small towns around Pittsburgh so they would rent a room in Christy Park to live in during the work-week and then return home on the weekend. Beautiful Miss DiMartini rented a room in my house. On paydays, she would dress up, and go out dancing in a downtown night club. One payday, my mom and dad were out. Music was playing in Miss DiMartini's room so I knocked on her door and asked if she needed anything. She opened the door, looked at me and smiled, and said no thanks but then asked if I knew how to dance. She was dressed in a shiny black dress and looked like a movie star. I remember getting so flustered that I told her "I love dancing but I don't know to do it." She said she would show me, kicked off her heels, put her arm around me, and started to teach me in the upstairs hallway. A slow song was playing on her radio and I was melting out of her arms and onto the floor.

I don't know if I really deserve it, onna counta all's I done was write down some stuff that happened or maybe I hallucinated or something."One of the attendees, or perhaps a Burger Joint customer, stood and shouted, "Hey, what's that there book about, anyways?""I think about 200 pages," Kiske replied."Well, it is deeply evocative?""Uh..." Kiske stammered."Is it smart, compelling and heartfelt?""Maybe.""Is it a page-turner, a tour-de-force?""Um, I gotta go now," Kiske said as the audience erupted into a chorus of guffaws, belches and farts.

When God liberated Israel from Egyptian slavery, He gave them 10 commandments by which to live at Mt. Sinai. He also gave the people 7 Holy Feasts to observe each year to commemorate and remember how He rescued them from servitude and persecution. These were called the 7 Feasts of Israel. Four were in the Spring and three were in the Fall.In the Old Testament, prophets wrote of a Jewish Messiah who would someday be sent from God to atone for their sins permanently. Unknown to Israel and the Jews was that this redeemer was none other than Jesus Christ. The 7 Feasts were given for two reasons: The first was to commemorate the deliverance of Israel from Egyptian bondage and slavery. The second was to prophesy of 7 events which will herald the first and second coming of Jesus Christ. The prophetic aspects of the first four Feasts were completely fulfilled at the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The last three will be fulfilled as the 70th week of Daniel and the current Church Age come to a close. Each feast was called a Moed, which is Hebrew for set time or an appointed time. The 7 Feasts collectively provide a blueprint for the 1st and 2nd comings of Jesus Christ. Both the Historical and Prophetic aspects of each feast will be presented, along with the Jewish and Christian meanings of each feast.

The Casino Down the Street distills a three-year study on casinos and the overall dangers of gambling addiction. Just as all of my books are based on true stories, this one is also. I decided to "get in the saddle" and gamble (despite being warned against it by my father) and soon fell into the hole (literally) of addiction. With spiritual intervention, I was able to "get on the wagon" and use all of my experiences to write this book. I hope that it will help you or someone close to you.In addition to my personal experience, we will also examine the following:* How a casino ticks* The types of gamblers* Are you addicted* Do casinos intentionally get patrons hooked* Why the "golden years" are a golden goose for casinos

The Bible is an Ancient Near Eastern text, which was written millennia ago within a time and culture that is vastly different from our own. The authors of the Bible had a perspective on life and the world around them that was steeped with their own traditions, customs and thoughts. When reading and studying this text we cannot interject our own cultural perspectives into the text, to do so would bring about interpretations and conclusions that are far removed from its intended meaning. But if we read the Bible from the perspective of those who wrote it and study their language, philosophy and culture from within its original context, the Bible will spring to life in ways you never thought possible.

Does the Divine actually talk to us ... maybe, even, using Democratic discourse or Republican rhetoric? Why is the vocabulary of some theologies peaceful and gracious, while others tend to be threatening and damning? What place do our holy books have in editorializing the language and logos of who and what we worship? Is there gender within (and without) spiritual speech? Whether focused on the hereafter or more concerned, instead, with today and tomorrow, the entrenched forces of organized religion undeniably are being challenged by a dynamic new testament. Voices previously unheard now relay their messages instantly across time and space, reaching and rallying an audience that's both receptive and responsive.Perhaps God is still speaking and trying to tell us something. What might that be?That the good news shared through social media echoes the progressive message of Jesus about grace, love, peace, compassion, inclusion, and social justice for all.A new dispensation, perhaps? It's the Gospel According to Facebook!
