A very wise physician has said that "every illness has two parts-what it is, and what the patient thinks about it." What the patient thinks about it is often more important and more troublesome than the real disease. What the patient thinks of life, what life means to him is also of great importance and may be the bar that shuts out all real health and happiness. The following pages are devoted to certain ideals of life which I would like to give to my patients, the long-time patients who have especially fallen to my lot.

Birds have not only charmed their way into the mythology and legends, but their colourful, chirpy presence delights the young and the old equally. Many of us enjoy the beauty of their shapes, the vivacity of their movements and their sweet calls. Avid bird watchers have captured the winged beauties within their camera lenses with admirable skill, determination and plenty of patience. This publication is an attempt to document the presence of some of our feathered friends in their natural surroundings. It has photographs of twenty-five birds often seen in a specific area in Kashmir (India).
