"Meta-analysis is undoubtably the future for anyone that uses data to understand human behaviour. Not only does this book take the reader's understanding of their data to the next level, Richard's writing is as engaging as it is accessible. An important book for any researcher."-Megan Birney, Associate Professor, University of Birmingham, UK""Meta-analysis for Psychologists is a surprisingly readable guide that makes meta-analysis techniques accessible to all psychologists."-Stuart Wilson, Senior Lecturer, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, UKThis textbook provides a comprehensive, user-friendly guide to meta-analysis and how to conduct it, using open source software and based on examples commonly found in the field of psychology. Meta-analysis is a key tool used in systematic literature reviews to synthesize research findings across studies, but despite being relatively straightforward to perform, it remains underused by psychologists. In the first section the reader is introduced to key ideas that underlie meta-analysis and how it might be best employed. Following this the reader is guided through how to run a meta-analysis of correlational studies and experimental studies using the free and open statistical software JAMOVI. In the concluding section Professor Cooke considers common issues, key debates and examines the relative merits of different analyses and different software packages. Covers theory, key issues and step-by-step demonstrations Includes examples worked examples familiar to psychologists and datasets Companion videos demonstrate the methods outlinedIt will provide a valuable new resource for postgraduate students and researchers in the behavioural and social sciences looking to enhance their methodological skills.Richard Cooke is Professor of Health Psychology at Staffordshire University, UK. Professor Cooke has an international reputation for using meta-analysis to test health psychology theories as predictors of health behaviours. He has authored five meta-analyses that have collectively been cited more than 1300 times and delivered numerous meta-analysis workshops. He has a lifelong love of meta-analysis and wants to encourage others to develop their skills in using this technique.

Aimed at healthcare students: medical, nursing, and allied professionals, the textbook covers a broad range of topics in Global Health as investigated and summarized by Cardiff University medical students completing a short course in Global Health. Global Health is an increasingly important aspect of the undergraduate medical curriculum but is rarely formally taught at undergraduate level. It focuses upon health in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC). Chapters include: What is Global Health; changing demographics and disease burden; Humanitarian medicine, Aid; health in conflict; Sexual Reproductive Health; Gender Based Violence; child health; disability; cancer care; palliative care; infectious disease; neglected tropical disease; the climate crisis and sustainable healthcare, amongst others.

This book is about the role that social media plays in the lives of individuals, societies, economies and polities. It therefore takes in a wide view of the emergent and changing impacts of social media platforms, and social media practices. As a consequence, it examines social media use through various intellectual and scholarly traditions --psychology, sociology, cultural studies, economics, and (national and global) politics ¿ but it is primarily situated in the field of media and communications studies. As such, it frames its analysis of social media impacts using media studies concepts and terminology, and places media texts, forms, industries and agents (producers, audiences and other users) at the centre of each thematic chapter.

This textbook provides an undergraduate introduction to Galois theory and its most notable applications.Galois theory was born in the 19th century to study polynomial equations. Both powerful and elegant, this theory was at the origin of a substantial part of modern algebra and has since undergone considerable development. It remains an extremely active research subject and has found numerous applications beyond pure mathematics. In this book, the authors introduce Galois theory from a contemporary point of view. In particular, modern methods such as reduction modulo prime numbers and finite fields are introduced and put to use. Beyond the usual applications of ruler and compass constructions and solvability by radicals, the book also includes topics such as the transcendence of e and ¿, the inverse Galois problem, and infinite Galois theory.Based on courses of the authors at the École Polytechnique, the book is aimed at students with a standard undergraduate background in (mostly linear) algebra. It includes a collection of exam questions in the form of review exercises, with detailed solutions.

This is a open access book. Ranaviruses, double-stranded DNA viruses (family Iridoviridae) that cause systemic, life-threatening disease in a variety of amphibians, reptiles and fish, have contributed to mass die-offs of both wild and captive populations around the globe. These viruses are emerging and increasingly responsible for population declines of ectothermic vertebrates. Because amphibians, reptiles, and freshwater turtles are suitable hosts and among the most imperiled vertebrate taxa in the world, ranaviruses can have significant impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem function. Additionally, many fish that are raised in aquaculture facilities and traded internationally are suitable hosts; thus, the potential economic impact of ranaviruses is significant. Ranaviruses also serve as a model for understanding viral replication and gene function among large double-stranded DNA viruses, e.g., poxviruses, asfarvirus, and ascoviruses. Lastly, study of the host immune response to ranaviral disease and the identification of viral immune evasion genes that negatively regulate host immune functions provide insight into which specific immune elements are most important in protecting host species against severe disease. The effort to produce a 2nd edition of our earlier work grew out of a recent meeting (1st Global Amphibian and Reptile Disease Conference) held in August 2022. Given the continued research in ranaviruses and ranaviral disease since the first edition, this new book updates the latest information on ranaviruses and provides guidance on how to monitor and manage ranaviruses in cold-blooded vertebrate populations.

The aim of this book is to quickly elevate students to a proficiency level where they can solve linear and nonlinear partial differential equations using state-of-the-art numerical methods. It covers numerous topics typically absent in introductory texts on ODEs and PDEs, including: Computing solutions to chaotic dynamical systems with TRBDF2 Simulating the nonlinear diffusion equation with TRBDF2 Applying Newton¿s method and GMRES to the nonlinear Laplace equation Analyzing gas dynamics with WENO3 (1D Riemann problems and 2D supersonic jets) Modeling the drift-diffusion equations with TRBDF2 and PCG Solving the classical hydrodynamic model (electro-gas dynamics) with WENO3 and TRBDF2The book features 34 original MATLAB programs illustrating each numerical method and includes 93 problems that confirm results discussed in the text and explore new directions. Additionally, it suggests eight semester-long projects. This comprehensive text can serve as the basis for a one-semester graduate course on the numerical solution of partial differential equations, or, with some advanced material omitted, for a one-semester junior/senior or graduate course on the numerical solution of ordinary and partial differential equations. The topics and programs will be of interest to applied mathematicians, engineers, physicists, biologists, chemists, and more.
