Smith County was formed in 1799 from part of Sumner County, and most of the early settlers were from N.C., VA. via East Tennessee. The deeds of Smith County are probably the most complete records available for this time period and with the marriages available in printed format from 1838-1881 these Deed Abstracts make an excellent source to try and reconstruct marriages as implied in the Deeds of Smith County for this early time period. Smith County adjoined Sumner and Wilson counties at the time of its formation.

Many of her early residents were from Maryland and in turn many of her residence later moved on to Essex & Stafford Counties and to other counties South of the James River. This book contains the Register of St. Stephen's Parish, Northumberland County, VA. This book contains the BIRTHS from 1661-1810 along with a few deaths being mentioned.

This book on English passenger arrivals to ports along the eastern seaboard during the years immediately preceding Independence presents a list of about 6,000 names copied from Treasury Records in the Public Record Office in London. For each passenger the following information is given: age, occupation, place of origin, name of ship, destination, and reason for emigration. These new immigrants were Georgia; North & South Carolina, Virginia; Maryland; Pennstlvania; New York, Massechuttes, Barbados, St. Kitts, St. Vincients, Jamacia, Antigua, Montreal, Quebec, Dominica, Fort Chamberland, St. Christophers, Tobago, Nevis, Greneda, and Bermuda.

The 5,000 plus obituary notices were extracted from six early Kentucky newspapers and published in The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society. The Newspapers from which they were abstracted from: the Observer & Reporter, the Kentucky Gazette, the Reporter, the Kentucky Reporter, the Observer, the Argus of Western America and . Most entries give the name of the deceased, place of residence, name of spouse, names of parents and other survivors, date of death, and other genealogical data. The new Index that was created for this book mentions approximately 7,000 persons.

This book contains a weath of information about early settlers who came to Texas prior to 1836 and is arranged alphabetically by surname, giving the amount of land grant, the Colony or Commissioner where the land was located and the present day location. The date of the Title gives a valuable clue as to when the settler arrived in Texas.

It lies in the Northeasern portion of the state along the Savannah River just across from Anderson and Abbeville Counties, South Carolina. The first settlers started arriving in the area from Virgina and the Carolinas and continued on as land grants were being issued from service in the Revolutionary War. Contrary to the microfilm heading, the records are NOT court minutes; but rather are the records concerning roads and bridges. The records include the orders appointing road commissioners and overseers, petitions to construct new roads and bridges or alter existing ones, and the reports of commissioners regarding the efficacy and public utility of newly proposed roadsand bridges or alterations or repairs to existing ones.

Data to be found within each entry gives: the name of the bride and the groom, the date of marriage, the place of residence and names of parents when known. The counties in which this land fell were: Davidson, Greene, Hawkins, Sullivan, Sumner, Tennessee, Washington, and the eastern, Middle and Western districts.

It is surrounded by the counties of: Cannon, DeKalb, Rutherford, Smith and Sumner. The county court clerk's office contains marriage records, guardian settlements, wills and inventories, and the minutes of the county court. The records date from 1800 down to the present. Fortunately, none of Wilson County's records are missing. An effort has been made to abstract all of these records from 1800 through 1900. This book is the completion of that effort. This book does include the first of the deed books of Wilson County, Deed Books A & B.
