108,95 kr. China is growing in power and in need of raw materials. When an aggressive general, with encouragement from an unnamed puppet master in the Politburo, moves to seize the Spratly Islands from The Philippines and Taiwan, the Marines of the 15th MEU are the only unit in position to do anything about it. What makes things more difficult is that the Chinese have made great strides in cyber-warfare that have negated America's technological superiority. What will be the result of years of letting China manufacture electronic components and even parts for the US aircraft, satellites, and communications systems? "Every Marine is a rifleman" has never been more true when the ultimate weapon in the nation's arsenal is the basic infantryman. But can Captain Tony Niimoto, a hero of both the embassy takeover in New Delhi and the hostage rescue in Somalia, lead his company against an overwhelming force of the finest of the People's Liberation Army? Can Sergeant Harrington Steptoe, Sergeant "Jay" McNamara, and First Lieutenant Peter Van Slyke step up into the mantle of leadership when all the odds are against them? This is Volume 3 of "The Return of the Marines." Some of the characters have been introduced in the previous volumes, but "The Marines" is a stand-alone book in its own right.

- A Guide for Men Over 40
78,95 kr. No Pain Means No . . . Pain and Yet a Longer Life? An overwhelming body of science has changed the way we think about exercise and health. The key to a longer life is exercise, but exercise in moderation. Moderate resistance training can increase a man's lifespan by an average of seven years, and moderate cardio can increase it by close to six years. While a sedentary lifestyle shortens both life spans and quality of life, extreme training can actually shorten lifespan as well, especially for endurance athletes. It is not just lifespan that improves with moderate exercise. Overall health, sex, and mental functions all benefit with the proper exercise regimen. This guide targets the over-40 man who wants to get back into shape. Luckily, even those in the 80's and 90's can see positive results from exercise, particularly resistance training, so it is never too late. However, as we age, we are more susceptible to injury, so care must be taken to design an exercise regimen that maximizes benefits and minimizes wear and tear and injury. The first part of the book summarizes the results of hundreds of studies that examined the effect of exercise and strength on longevity. The science of exercise has changed dramatically over the last 20 years. What we were taught when we were young is now considered faulty and even harmful. This section of the guide pertains to everyone, men and women, of all ages. The second part of the guide examines some of the considerations an older man needs to take into account when starting his exercise program. Jumping right into the gym without an appropriate plan will probably do more harm than good. The third part of the guide gives some sample workout routines and lists the references. What this guide is not is an extensive exercise encyclopedia. It does not offer hundreds of different workouts with photos of exercise after exercise. It is not a motivational self-help that tries to get you off the couch and into the gym. You have to be the one to make the decision to get into shape. What it does, however, is provide you the reasons you should make that decision, then once made, it provides you with the foundation to create your own individual regimen. While the science may be of interest to everyone, this book was not written for the gym rat or long-distance runner in mind. The science also pertains to women, but this book does not examine the specific differences that women need to understand before starting their own program of fitness. The author is not a certified trainer. However, earning his doctorate taught him research, and this book is based on the myriad of studies that have examined the relationship between exercise and longevity. The studies used are all referenced in the endnotes and bibliography. The book is not solely based on research, though. The author has been a lifelong athlete in a number of sports, but after losing part of his shoulder as a result of his duty in Iraq, he had to change his own lifestyle to take this into account. With input from military rehabilitation programs and based on current research, he has been successful in tailoring a regimen suited to his situation. Once more, this is not the end all of exercise books. No book really can do that, and this guide doesn't attempt it. However, it does provide some invaluable information that can be of great benefit to someone who wants to get back into shape and enjoy a long, healthy, and happy life.

153,95 kr. Retired (and exiled) Marine Lieutenant General Colby Edison's farm is overrun by a horde of alien plants, leafy gremlin-like creatures that begin systematically destroying first his crops and then his home. And not just his farm, but all the surrounding farms as well. The relentless plants have apparently killed his neighbors, and clearly, he and his dog Duke are next. But as a retired Marine, Colby has resources and skills not shared by other farmers on the newly terraformed agricultural world of Vasquez and soon he is bringing the fight to the invaders.Except. . . who is really invading whom? High in orbit above Vasquez, a sentient vegetable studies the planet it had seeded and sculpted centuries before, laying it out as world-sized garden. Now, returning to inspect the progress of its work, it finds its art has been tainted by the intrusion of crop grids, farm buildings, and people, all of which must be purged if the garden is to endure. When two species clash, only one will survive.Former psychology professor Lawrence M. Schoen and retired Marine Colonel Jonathan P. Brazee join forces in the SEEDS OF WAR trilogy, pitting Marine against Gardener, with the fate of all of humanity hanging in the balance. This omnibus volume has all three of the previously released books of the trilogy: Book 1: INVASIONBook 2: SCORCHED EARTHBook 3: BITTER HARVES

113,95 - 123,95 kr. United Federation Marine Lance Corporal Tamara Veal catches the attention of recruiters who nominate her to serve as a Single Combat Specialist. Gladiators, as they are better known, are genetically modified human champions who meet Klethos d'relle in the combat ring when the Klethos issue a challenge for a human world. Win, and the planet stays in human possession; lose, and not only do they lose their lives, but the world as well. With the Klethos much more advanced and powerful militarily, able to defeat humanity in an all-out war, the challenge ring is the only way to retain at least some of the worlds of man. While life as a gladiator is full of celebrity status and the gratitude of humanity, it comes with a heavy price. Not only is there the real risk of death in the ring, if a gladiator survives that, the "Brick," or Boosted Regeneration Cancer, will claim her life within a few years.Lance Corporal Veal, who has found a home in the Marines, has to decide whether to accept the nomination. She would have to leave her brothers and sisters in the Corps, be assigned to the combined human gladiator course, and undergo extreme genetic modification that will leave her almost unrecognizable from the woman she was before. Becoming a gladiator will enable her to serve humanity to a far greater extent than anything else she could do as a Marine grunt, but at a tremendous personal cost. Author's note: For those readers familiar with my other Marine-related books, this one is a little different in that there is far less combat action, particularly from a Marine unit standpoint. This novel, which is the first of three planned books that follow three different women serving as United Federation Marines or as a Navy corpsman, is more about duty, sacrifice, and what it means to serve in defense of others.
