Our guides on weather exposed timber design only dealt with best practice so we needed a medium to demonstrate the consequence of bad practice and also show our customers how they could avoid similar outcomes. (Usually this was by using our proprietary products). An email newsletter was the ideal way to do this. These newsletters started off very simply but as I found my feet they grew in length and gave more comprehensive information. We were also able to get very high quality contributors as well. After writing the newsletter for four years I decided to compile them for easy access. All in all there is a wealth of knowledge in these newsletters and, if you follow them, it may well keep you out of the hands of the solicitors.

The book also looks at themes found in the three books such as leadership and heretical belief and practices.

Timber in Playgrounds guides a professional designer, asset owner and inspector through the different aspects of that must be attended to when bringing to fruition a timber playground that ages gracefully with a long service life along with low maintenance and, above all, is fit for purpose. It looks at the requirements under the Australian Standards tht relate to timber use in playgrounds and assesses their suitability and concludes that they give no design certainty and can even be very dangerous. The three species groups that designers are likely to encounter hardwood, cypress and pine in both sawn and round are investigated. Other areas examined in detail are how to engage with the ground, how to detail joints and timber preservation. The book concludes with a design checklist and a number of case histories.
