Ancient Olympia is located in a gently swinging bucolic countryside decorated with pine trees, hills and grazing grounds for sheep and goats, friendly dogs and shepherds. Flowers blossom everywhere. Through the idyllic landscape flows the scenic river Alpheios born in the mountains of Arcadia and winding along the long and greening valley. Eventually, it passes by next to many coarse and giant grey stone discs and huge columns, ruins of temples dedicated to the highest Greek gods as Zeus and Hera. It is the Holy Sanctuary of the "land of the Greeks" of old, the Altis at Olympia below the foot of Kronos Hill. Here, almost three millenia ago, was the Center of the ancient Greek culture of Olympic gods and Great Games. "Arcadia" was considered the origin and "Golden Age" of elegiac literature, Olympia of top-level agons at the stadium. And of public encounters of political, religious and military leaders as well as agons of rhetoricians, historians and philosophers.This is even nowadays a place of ever again coming back to: Rolling home to Old Olympia. Even modern Olympians are lured into the magical entourage and scenery. Including the author of this booklet. Sixty years ago, he taught here as a first Olympic docent at the Olympic Summer Academy organized by the Hellenic and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), after having written the first socio-philosophical book on "Values, Aims, Reality of the Modern Olympic Games" (1964), summarized in English. Later, he wrote "S.O.S. - Save Olympic Spirit" (2012). Now, he was invited to come back to present the opening lecture of the International Philosophy Olympiad (IPO) which was for the first time held in Ancient Olympia. Enthused, he came flying, rolling home to Old Olympia - as a former Olympic Champion in rowing - metaphorically: Rowing home to Old Olympia. Not only does he here present this keynote address, but vividly he offers his Olympic experiences and other quite funny but real Olympic stories - even his climb on Mt. Olympus. The Philosophy Department of the University of Patras organized this year's IPO which was cosponsored by the International Olympic Academy (IOA). The IPO meeting is the final essay contest for high-school students who had to qualify in their previous national pretests in 50 nations (two for each land). 250 young philosophy enthusiasts took part. The over-all topic was "Life in Fair Competition". The young students had a wonderful time together enjoying the acquaintance and blossoming international friendships. This is in full agreement and accordance with the values and ideas of the Olympic movement as fostered by the IOC and IOA. Quite in the same mood like the mentioned Olympic Summer Academies for sport students, teachers and officials - as well as the values of the Olympic Games and their rather new Olympic Youth Games. A hopeful value congruence of international solidarity and fostering friendship between young representatives all over the world. Only with such values embraced by the young generations we can hope for a better world.Therefore, it is really imperative to go international and come back rolling home to Olympia - in sport and philosophy as well.

Genshin (¿¿; 942-1017), also known as Eshin sozu (¿¿¿¿) , is one of the most prominent masters of Japanese Tendai Buddhism. This study focuses on one of his seminal works, the Ichijo yoketsu ¿¿¿¿ (Determining the Essentials of the One-vehicle), and evaluates its influence on subsequent representatives of the tradition in the medieval period. It elucidates how Genshin and his most significant writings, i.e. the Ichijo yoketsu and the Ojoyoshu ¿¿¿¿ (The Essentials of Birth in the Pure Land), were understood in the Buddhist milieu of the Japanese Middle Ages. By shedding light how the Ichijo yoketsu was quoted in connection to the sangoku mappo ¿¿¿¿ paradigm ("decline of the dharma throughout the three countries" of India, China, and Japan), the present book contributes original and relevant insights into Japanese Buddhism. It primarily takes an intertextual approach, which is carried out with the help of digital resources and tools. Yet another feature is the first English-language translation of the Genshin sozu den ¿¿¿¿¿ (Biography of the General Vicar Genshin), the oldest full-length biography of Genshin. While the work presents a wealth of new knowledge and hitherto unexplored angles, it does not intend to conclude its matter. Rather, it aims at inspiring further interest in the study of Genshin and his many unexplored works.

Der vorliegende Band versammelt Autoren aus den Bereichen Informatik, Philosophie, Medienwissenschaft und Mediendramaturgie. In den Kapiteln werden die Ursprünge des ersten Chatbots ELIZA, den Joseph Weizenbaum 1966 am AI-Lab des MIT entwickelte, noch einmal nachvollzogen, Weizenbaums Programmiersprache SLIP vor gestellt und eine erste deutschsprachige Übersetzung seiner Publikation zu ELIZA präsentiert. In Erweiterung des Themas fragen die Autoren, welchen Einfluss ELIZA auf die Computerkultur, die KI-Forschung, die Kulturkritik des Computers und die Kunst hatte. Das Buch ist die erste interdisziplinäre Veröffentlichung zu ELIZA. Für die zweite Auflage wurden alle Beiträge noch einmal durchgesehen und aktualisiert. Zusätzlich wurde ein neuer Beitrag mit dem Original-Sourcecode von Weizenbaums ELIZA ergänzt.

In the 1920s and 1930s Shanghai was not only the largest, richest, and most modern city of China, the site of churches and schools, the residence of politicians and powerful merchants, it was also the home of innumerable beggars and street children. In the heart of this busy metropolis the young and ambitious Catholic Joseph Lu Bohong (also known as Loh Pahong, 1875-1937) had become rich by managing one of the first electric power stations and a tramway line. What made him so special was that he felt compassion with the lot of the poor in Shanghai and actively helped them. He used his organization talents and his financial resources to build a large hospice for homeless people, where, with the help of Catholic nurses, he cared for several thousand orphans, homeless, sick or old people. He founded a hospital to treat infectuous diseases, and later he built China's first large institute for mental diseases. He made regular visits in hospitals to console the moribund, and he even hurried to prisons to baptize criminals hours before their execution, since he wanted to save their souls. Based on Chinese and western sources and on recent interviews with the grandson of Lu Bohong, this book tells the amazing and inspiring story of the life of Joseph Lu Bohong, a Catholic layman of international reputation who was killed in a mysterious assassination in 1937. Only after eighty years the enigma of "Who killed Lu Bohong" could finally be solved.

Die aus der Behindertenrechtskonvention der Vereinten Nationen (2006) resultierende Umsetzung Inklusiver Pädagogik in Schulen der Sekundarstufe ist als ein spezifisches Entwicklungsfeld anzusehen. In der vorliegenden Publikation werden Prozesse inklusiver Schulentwicklung erstmals mittels einer qualitativen Prozessanalyse in einer zwei Jahrzehnte überblickenden Perspektive empirisch untersucht. Ziel der Studie ist es, inklusive Schulentwicklungsprozesse in der Sekundarstufe des Bildungswesens zu erfassen und hinsichtlich des Umgangs mit sozialen Ungleichheitslagen zu analysieren. Die Lernprozesse zweier ausgewählter Inklusiver Schulen in Nordrhein-Westfalen - der Erich Kästner-Gesamtschule und des Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasiums - im Hinblick auf die Berücksichtigung von Bildungs- und sozialer Ungleichheit konnten so nachgezeichnet und auslösende Faktoren und Gelingensbedingungen für inklusive Schulentwicklungsprozesse retrospektiv dargestellt werden.

It explores the connotation of the core concept of Laozi's philosophy-"Dao"(the Way), Laozi's dialectics and Zhuangzi's further deepening and development of Laozi's philosophy, the concepts of Being and Not-being, the unity of opposites, the theoretical basis of Zhuangzi's famous argument of "Making All Things Equal", and the Daoist philosophy of life and the Daoist view of life and death etc. With the help of some illustrations and classical stories, we try to illustrate the essence of traditional Chinese culture.
