- Relating to Their History, Religion and Life
513,95 kr. The present volume of documents relating to Samaritan history, religion, and life is intended as a companion to 'The Samaritan Problem', Pittsburgh Monograph Series, Number 4, as giving translations of texts by Samaritan authors mentioned therein. But this is not the only aim of this work. It attempts to make accessible, in English, examples from a variety of Samaritan documents which provide us with a firsthand picture of Samaritan views about their history, their religion, and hopes for the future.

513,95 kr. In the book of Acts divine involvement is everywhere. From the beginning God is responsible for promised action, including the geographic expansion--"in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (1:7)--referenced in Jesus'' response to the disciples, clearly related to Luke''s purpose in writing the book. Geographic expansion, however, is only the second part of Jesus'' reply. Is it possible that the first half of Jesus'' reply--"It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority"--has even greater bearing on the actions that follow and on Luke''s purpose? Is the Father setting times and seasons related to the kingdom''s establishment? Does this phrase explain the conspicuous divine involvement throughout the plot? In Restoring the Kingdom, Michael Salmeier answers these questions in the affirmative by exploring Luke''s characterization of God in three strands: God as the King who establishes and restores Israel''s king, who establishes his people, and who directs events. This unfolds Luke''s purpose in assuring the reader concerning the events that have taken place, helping to more fully illuminate Luke''s theology concerning God and his kingdom.

468,95 kr. CONTRIBUTORS: E. Byron Anderson, K. K. Yeo, Margaret Eletta Guider, OSF, Lester Edwin J. Ruiz, Brent Waters, Namsoon Kang, Luis R. Rivera, and David Esterline.Theological education in the United States finds itself in untested circumstances today. Rapid social change is creating an increasing multicultural, multiracial, and multireligious context for leadership formation. At the same time, international enrollment, cross-border educational initiatives, student and faculty exchanges, and more are connecting US theological schools with a global community of Christian teaching and learning. How do US theological institutions ""locate"" themselves within this global ecology of theological formation so as to be both responsible participants and creative shapers within it? That is, how do they discern their proper place and role? It is questions like these that the contributors to this volume explore. Building on the decades-long discussion about the globalization of US theological education, this book argues that, in engaging such questions, US theological institutions have much to gain from a sustained conversation with the burgeoning literature on the internationalization of American higher education. This research offers theological institutions a trove of insights and cautionary tales as they seek to discern their rightful place and role in educating leaders in and for a global Christian church.CONTRIBUTORS: E. 523,95 kr. Pope Paul VI''s notion of "integral human development," which was endorsed by his successors including Pope Francis, broke with the modern project of purely economic and technological development, resulting in an original understanding of development. Like a conventional notion of development, this theoretical construct favors economic growth, technological innovation, and the implementation of social programs. However, development is not just a socioeconomic and political issue, let alone a technical one; it raises, fundamentally, theological questions and points to important ethical challenges. Hence, integral human development is a vocation at which all personal, social, and political activity must be directed. As such, it is not a social but an anthropological program. Far from being a secular development theory, the notion of "integral human development" emphasizes the religious goal of reconciling humanity and God through the creation of a human family over and above material social and economic issues. Sustained by global principle and shaped by different cultural views, this book brings forth the uniqueness of this approach to development, examines its contribution to human welfare, and anticipates the resistances it may face.

488,95 kr. Combining his deep knowledge of Luther with a passion to speak the promising word of the gospel with clarity and integrity in our age, Oswald Bayer has emerged as a leading Lutheran theologian. The chapters in this Festschrift demonstrate the wide scope of Bayer''s interest: Martin Luther, Johann Georg Hamann, the doctrine of justification, ethics, hermeneutics, theological method, sacraments, and the theology of lament. These essays, written by scholars from North America and Australia who have been influenced by Bayer''s pioneering work, demonstrate the resources that his work has for not only Reformation studies and systematic theology but also for preaching, liturgical theology, pastoral care, and apologetics. For those who are not yet acquainted with the contributions of this Tubingen theologian, Promising Faith for a Ruptured Age: An English-Speaking Appreciation of Oswald Bayer will serve as a guide to and commentary on Bayer''s multifaceted approach to theology. Those familiar with Bayer''s work as a systematic theologian and Luther scholar will discover new applications of fundamental themes for in interdisciplinary research, ecumenical conversation, and church life.
