  • - The Prayers-A Book on Munduka and on Open Meditation
    af A M Nagesh
    123,95 kr.

Discussions about the Upanishath without understanding its essence are irrelevant; in such a situation, it is better to avoid talking on this subject. Upanishath is a vast subject. I chose a topic in Upanishath that suits a psychiatrist well. Being a psychiatrist, I always raise my voice against the sinister plans of certain Janthar Manthar's, who have sowed the seeds of evil in the minds of innocent people in our society, in managing psychiatric disorders. The mental disorders have been viewed from ages as not diseases but as possessive disorders. Hence, cure would be from God's powers to the inhuman sorcery and black magic. Munduka Upanishathis one chapter in the Upanishath; in its description, I found no such powers like obeisance, obedience and obligation in the form of Yagna. It says burning Ajnana alone offers Jnana. Ancient teaching is to meditate with closed eyes. I have observed no logic in this. Meditating with closed eyes is Jada Samadhi; doing the same with open eyes is Samadhi. I tried Open Mediation in my practice and I found it to be practical.

  • - The Purity-A Book on Life's Attributes
    af A M Nagesh
    123,95 kr.

It has been said that a psychiatrist's mind is like a doctor's handwriting. In my first English book, Parivarthana (the change), I have made a mention about "Shrink." I am of the opinion that a psychiatrist would remain shrunk unless he does not come out from the western ideas and goes nearer to the eastern mysticism. De knotting Kagga (knot) of late Dr. D V Gundappa (a well-known author in Kannada literature) would require patience and knowledge, so also we need patience and knowledge to understand our complex life. Intellectual living does not assist man. Simplicity holds the key to rein on life. The pulse of living is directly proportional to the proper representation of life attributes. After all, life attributes are the subtle connectors of different lives with infinite objects of universe. Though my topics are not fiction, they are meant to provoke our thoughts along religious lines, our bygone philosophy, my own thoughts, my spiritual inventions and practices, the present day society and its psycho-social issues, the cosmic phenomenon, the current political scenarios, the life engineering programs and the works on neuro-spiritual interfaces (mind-matter interface).

  • - Some Journeys Are Just Meant to Be Read
    af Gaurav Nigam
    103,95 kr.

"I thought about taking my life for the 138th time today. No I am not making this up. The words that you write last for your book are the one that are read first by your audience. Ironical. Such was my life. Hi. I am Amit. This is the story of my life, a life lived through the tinted glasses of OCD - a weird disease where you can't shake off the strangest of thoughts. I have lived in alternative realities, been slapped in public for touching a woman's back to purify her, walked in a loop of the same 70 steps for over five hours to make sure my loved ones do not die. Things that are normal were never normal for me. This is the story of my life... A life twisted by OCD... My journey from insanity to sanity, from the deepest dark wells to the pinnacles of success... From being the Patient to becoming the world-renowned doctor. This is my one and only story."

My Memories take me back to growing up in India. I grew up in different parts of India which gave me the exposure to the vibrant cultures all across the regions. But what memory resonates with me is my passion for food. The magic created by the blending of an assortment of spices is perhaps the reason why I was hooked. I was fascinated how different cultures used the same ingredients but transformed the food to something different yet so abundant in flavours. I know you will enjoy these recipes that have been blended using spices and techniques popular in North and South Indian cuisine. They are healthy with no compromise on taste.

"A daring covert action by the CIA to hijack a Boeing 777 passenger plane carrying Russian and Chinese computer scientists to London from Bangkok. These scientists were collaborating on a project to develop a highly sensitive software that could hack computer systems in the USA and bring all activities under their control. As part of the operation, the entire plane with all the passengers, including the scientists, were hijacked and transported to an isolated island in the Indian Ocean, which was serving as a strategic naval base of the USA. Here the scientists were separated from the other passengers and sent to a secret location in the USA in different military aircrafts. The scientists were interrogated and coerced into working for the USA. They were given all facilities needed to develop the program and implement it on the computer systems in Moscow. A startling story of how the program, which was prepared to paralyze the American computer network, was used, instead, to cause a breakdown of the power system in Moscow. Meanwhile, all international efforts to track the Boeing 777 plane proved futile and it was believed to have crashed in the ocean leaving no survivors. The American government also joined the search effort, officially and offered condolences for the "death" of the passengers."

  • - A Thesis on Alternative Social Order
    af Liladhar Pirsali
    103,95 kr.

"The thesis is a continuous thought process of the author from his childhood focusing on why. Having so many the great and their thoughts and practices since time immemorial, the man is still helpless and dependent. Globally renowned centers of so-called knowledge are emphasizing on employability of man. There is no serious attempt to make him stand on his own feet. Education is still centered on rote-learning. The shackles binding him in the name of caste, creed, color, nation and religion are tightening their grip day by day. Why is the question `why` not answered so far? The thesis begins with the declaration that the answer to the question is as easy as the question itself. But, the reader has to go through the book to get a satisfactory and convincing answer!"

"The Iron Will of Vishvamitra is based on a creative interpretation of the causes and effects of two mythological water-wars fought during the Rigvedic period on the banks of the rivers Ravi and Yamuna. This book tells the reader that when natural water resources are exploited forcibly and unreasonably, without caring for environment and agriculture, a fierce struggle breaks out between the rival claimants. Nature plays havoc with the perpetrator as well as the sufferer. The perpetrator's greed and avarice bring about the doom of the good and the bad alike. When exploitation and misuse of natural water resources continue unhindered and all efforts of persuasion fail, a man of iron will like Vishvamitra takes up the cudgels to save the earth and teaches the wrong-doers a lesson. On the surface, this is what the book is about, but readers may delve deep into it to understand the ""unseen"" meaning. Also available as e-book on all major online platforms such as Amazon Kindle, Kobbo, Rockstand and Google Play."

Make reading more colourful! This book doubles up as a colouring book.Get going with a box of colours!!Poorni tried hard to recollect the name of Vedavyasa's mother but failed. Her grandma, Dodda, nodded her head and gave out the answer. What followed was more questions. Does Brahma see a new universe every single day in his 100 year-life-span? How did Vishnu tackle plagiarism of his Vedas? Was the last Pandava warrior, who escaped Brahmastra, killed by an eight-year-old boy's curse? Is North star named after Dhruva, who did penance at the age of five? Why did Vaivasvata Manu want his baby's gender changed? Was Chandra cursed to wax and wane by his father-in-law? How did a King give birth to a baby, when such medical miracles were unheard of in those ages? Poorni found answers in the form of stories. When she started to read more, she found an interesting connection between the Puranas and the present-day life. Such stories gave birth to the book, Ishanu Tales. It is a collection of select stories from Srimadbhagavata, one of the eighteen puranas, revered in Hindu philosophy. The Bhagavata comprises of 12 Skandas (volume of books), which include a wide range of topics including cosmology, astronomy, genealogy, culture. This book covers some of the interesting stories on creation of universe, genealogy of Suryavamshis (solar dynasty) and the Chandravamshis (lunar dynasty) and also on various forms that Vishnu takes to restore peace and righteousness (Dharma).

"Gunpowder has been considered as one of the most important discoveries made by man after the wheel. Interestingly, the origin of gunpowder is still shrouded in uncertainty. Nobody can definitely say who actually invented gunpowder and when. Common belief has it that gunpowder was invented in China and then came to India via the Silk Route. Studies done by the author show that gunpowder was actually invented in India went to China via the trade routes, from where it was showcased to World. With gunpowder, came the development of weapons, which changed the course of wars and changed the very course of history. An analysis of various weapons, their development and chronology has been systematically discussed. It covers the time period from 1000 ad to 1850 ad. The end period, 1850 AD, has been chosen as the cutoff date since percussion weapons came into vogue after that period and are well-documented in history. The start date, 1000 ad, is chosen on purpose to give a small margin to encompass any aberrations in discovery of gunpowder. The author sincerely hoped that this work would form a platform from which other studies/ research could be conducted by future arms historians."

"This book is a first person narrative non-fiction that chronicles the lives of institutionalised children and traces the evolution of an organization called Make A Difference (MAD) that works with them. In 2006, MAD was founded to ensure equitable outcomes for institutionalised children. 2006 was also the year that Archana Rao-D'Cruz moved to Kochi, joined MAD as a volunteer teacher and began working at a street shelter for boys called Sneha Children's Home. Working with the young MAD volunteers gave her an insight into the making of the current generation of Indians. It was inspiring to see the passion and commitment that young Indians were capable of and their willingness to take on the daunting task of rehabilitating 20 million Indian children who are in need of institutionalised care. While this book is written primarily to bring the cause of institutionalised children into focus, it also shines the spotlight on those working relentlessly to make this a better world."

Congratulations! If children, from an early age, are taught to grow in Faith, they counteract the bad influences by themselves throughout their life. The God-given motivation serves me as an internal guidance in writing for children. This book can be read and discussed by parents with young children in their family time. It nourishes the mind and soul and straightens our ways. Be chosen and blessed to know about God!

Set in the 1960s era, in the center of Mylapore, a large middle-class hamlet of the modern day Chennai, this book takes you through the journey of a little boy who eventually finds himself making dramatic adjustments in Massachusetts during the 1980s and 90s. The little boy, from a religious and orthodox family, grows up amidst rigorous and disciplined surroundings. He also observes and imbibes the culture and traditions around him. He then moves to the country of opportunities, USA, for higher education only to find himself slam-dunked into a totally diverse and different socio-economic-cultural environment. These real-life experiences are narrated in semi-fictional anecdotes laced with humor. This book is a nostalgic trip for those who lived in the old Madras and later ended up in the USA. For the young readers of the current generation, who carry the legacy of Chennai, it is a verbal treatise on the socio-economic-cultural past.
