- This monograph traces the career of Jean-Louis Avril, a French designer famous for his line of furniture made entirely of Celloderm Born in 1935 in France, Jean-Louis Avril studied architecture at École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Technique is central to his building process. He is passionate about jazz and is interested in American minimal art, particularly the work of Donald Judd. This monograph traces his career and focuses on his furniture, which represents the taste and aspirations of a generation of baby boomers. The choice of Celloderm, a derivative of cardboard, allows for a simple and accurate design language. The solutions display strong ideas: a beautiful shape, a practical function, an accessible price. His creations are very successful. With the creation of the company Marty-Lac (Carton Applications) in 1967 associated with his father-in-law, he achieved commercial success by developing numerous models of furniture, seats, tables, bed, shelves and lighting. They offer a strategy, a catalog, sales outlet and export to England with Hull traders. Faithful to his commitment as an architect, he also imagines interior spaces with great spatial efficiency. - This book traces the career of Raymond Delamarre (1890-1986), a major French sculptor of the interwar period, who flourished particularly in the Art Deco styleA prolific sculptor, Raymond Delamarre (1890-1986) expressed his quest for pure lines and elegant forms through sixty years, from medals to monumental works. Winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1919, he made a name for himself in the inter-war years. The 1925 International Exhibition was the first step in a fruitful collaboration with Michel Roux-Spitz, which led to the creation of the famous Monument to the Defence of the Suez Canal in particular. At the 1931 Colonial Exhibition, he made a name for himself with his Beatitudes and Christ on the Cross. An artist of the sacred, but also of the profane, his allegories exalt scientific knowledge and disseminate heritage values. Committed to Reconstruction, he adorned the town hall in Grand-Couronne and the post office cheque center in Dijon with bas reliefs. His sculptures breathed new life into secondary schools in Brest, Perpignan and Fort-de-France. A keen creator in the Art Deco period, he took on private commissions, of which Mowgli will remain the most striking, both for its originality and for the suppleness and strength of its figures.
