- The Story of Matthew Faulkner's Miraculous Recocery from Traumatic Brain Injury
153,95 kr. Most Likely to Survive is the real-life story of Matthew Faulkner, a smart and friendly young man who would see his well-planned life change dramatically in the blink of an eye. Voted "Most Likely to Succeed" by his classmates, a near-fatal car accident near the end of his senior year of high school would put Matt into the deepest depth of coma for six long weeks. His chance of survival was near zero, and if he did manage to somehow come out of the coma, he would likely end up requiring constant care in a skilled nursing facility. Through a series of miracles, Matt would walk out of the hospital and soon after, walk across the stage at his high school graduation to cheers and thunderous applause. Thanks to his rehab physician, a remarkable support system, dedicated therapists, grueling therapy sessions and incredible determination, he would fulfill his goal of not only going on to college, but doing exceptionally well academically. His recovery, which will be lifelong, continues to amaze his friends, family, the medical community and anyone who knows and understands the devastating impact of traumatic brain injury. There is another side to this story - the religious angle. There are those who credit Matt's amazing recovery to the work of the late Father Nelson Baker, the beloved priest from nearby Lackawanna, New York, who is in need of another miracle as he travels the long path to sainthood in the Catholic Church. Most Likely to Survive follows Matt's journey through hospitalization and recovery, recording both the milestones and the setbacks along the way. Medical miracle, religious miracle or a combination of both? That's left for the reader to decide.

118,95 kr. Many poems take the form of past memories. They are colored through the prism and nourished by the music of the world. Some are there like whole pictures and words that take up phrase and form. The author reaches back into experience, at times allegory or story rings on the page. All the writing is washed with the dream state's diaphanous sphere that saturates the lines with animation and a sense of wonder. Characters in the poems are evil and good. There are bombers, dreamers, environmentalists, gunslingers, and creatures that populate the sensitive ecosystems. The poems bring emotion and life to elephants, rhinos, birds and the human experience. Mr. Savett creates tension, imagining individuals in dangerous situations that recall the author's life experiences.

163,95 kr. Two college-age girls- Browyn, an anarchist, and Elaine, a go-getter- meet at a support group for those that have lost parents. Both of their fathers passed in different ways, but they strike up an abrasive yet charismatic friendship through their grief, anger and quirks. They both try to make sense of life after death, trying to become new people despite missing a vital piece of what made them alive in the first place. In this they learn what they're really hiding from- a truth that they cannot defeat and an acknowledgement that faith is more of a struggle than a feeling. Half memoir, half fiction, The face of a Monster is an examination of friendship, family and the curse of memory.

183,95 kr. Reckless tendencies, an ambition with the sword, and a cheerful attitude towards life has always marked the way for young Shadow Guidan. Never more than a few steps behind lies his womanizing, gambling addict best friend Kale. Ever since they were children they have caused more than a few headaches for Shadow's father Magus, who happens to be one of Gaia 's most respected General 's. While Shadow despises his lifelong boring job as a messenger that his father has burdened him with since he can remember, he is tired of hearing the word "no" when he asks if he can join the army. After returning home from a mission Magus pays Shadow a surprising visit, a visit that is even more shockingly followed by a new duty. Shadow has been ordered by his father, and the King, to accompany Princess Emerald as an extra bodyguard during her Day of Rising festivals. At least that is what everyone is lead to believe. Magus secretly tells Shadow that his real purpose is to spy on her two powerful Luna trainers, Sage and Katrina, and to report to him everything that they do. Any man knows that messing with the power of Spirit that the Luna are born with is a dangerous move, making Shadow wonder why his father would give him such a daunting task. What truly does not help his edginess about the situation is Emerald's compassionate nature and beautiful smile that send him stumbling over his words every time he lays eyes on her. Being around beautiful women is not something that he knows anything about. How is he supposed to tell her that he caught her sneaking out of the castle one night and followed her to a secret meeting with General Bachir? More importantly, how does he talk to her? When an attempt on Shadow's life by the Aakesh Race forces him to use the power of Spirit that he unknowingly possesses, Shadow is saved by a mysterious man that claims he is destined for great things. With secrets piling up, and far more questions than there are answers, Shadow turns his attention to help Emerald in a desperate attempt to save her Kingdom from Civil War. Their journey together will lead them down a path of love, betrayal, and sacrifice that they never thought existed. Shadow learns the truth about his father's past and his connection with the Luna. An ancient evil is set to be unleashed. In order for it to be stopped, Shadow must uncover the secrets behind a legend that has been hidden from the world for over a thousand years, a legend that will demand the ultimate sacrifice in exchange for its salvation, and make him ponder the thought of allowing a world filled with deceit and lies to be destroyed by a man that despite his darkness might actually make sense. In order for a hero to save the world, he must first believe in it.

173,95 kr. Based on true events, many investigated by the author personally, THE PLAZA was inspired by the murder of crime reporter Armando "El Choco" Rodriguez, of El Diario de Juarez. Plaza. Spanish: in Mexican culture, a slang word describing the territory of a certain drug cartel. "I've been a reporter for years, and a resident of Juarez, Mexico all of my life. I've never seen anything like it. No one thought the drug war would be like this...My town has become the battleground for drug cartels. Even the police are being killed on a daily basis. Bands of teenagers working as paid assassins & extortionists are hitting every business, no matter how small. Things I took for granted like going to a restaurant, getting a haircut, or even an evening at the movies with my family put all our lives in danger. Robberies and public executions have become common place. Now when I report only five homicides in twenty-four hours, it is considered a good day." - Saul Saavedra, crime reporter for The Juarez Daily in THE PLAZA. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to an orphanage in Juarez, Mexico. Any donations will be made public on facebook.com/theplazathenovel .

173,95 kr. This story takes place in the city of Lackawanna during the 1930s. It is a story dedicated to the men and women of Lackawanna, a small steel city in upstate New York. It is loosely centered around the life and times of one of its prominent citizens, Ralph J. Galanti, Sr. The events of the book take place during the years of 1932 and 1933. It also touches upon the early years in Lackawanna, the Western New York area and the migration of the book's characters from their homeland Italy. Many facets of these incredible years will be touched upon: the Great Depression, steel making, ethnic cultures, the political atmosphere, crime, home-grown stories of its citizens and of course, the famous Our Lady of Victory Basilica and its legendary founder, Father Nelson Baker. The book relates stories of many of the immigrants and first generation Americans who lived in an era that Tom Brokaw called, "The Greatest Generation." Many parts of this book are true to life and factual in content. Other parts are stories I have heard throughout my life and may be factual but also exaggerated. Some parts are a total figment of my imagination that was developed through the association with many of these characters in the book. This is not to diminish the special people who were part of this era but only to bring out what a wonderful era it was even though there were many hardships. Although this story is fictional and loosely based on some actual characters, I hope that those of you who read this book will capture the essence of the era, the courage of its people and the enjoyment they had in spite of the adversities of the times. This is a unique tale of how good triumphs over evil.

118,95 kr. "My wife's brother was born with a congenial heart murmur." "Humans differ from other animals because we have disposable thumbs." "That guy is always talking out of the side of his neck." Have you ever heard someone say something just wrong enough that you sort of understand them, yet you have to think about what you heard? Most people know what they mean to say but sometimes what comes out isn't exactly correct. Other times, things sound so wrong, you can't help but wonder what they were trying to say. Most of the words make sense but sometimes people mangle one or two of them and end up conveying something completely different. Here then, for your amusement, is a collection of linguistic wrongdoings. Some are self-explanatory. Some deserve comment, which I've happily supplied. Couple these with some interesting pictures and you've got, "Post Mortem Depression"

173,95 kr. Official corruption, labor unrest, crime in the streets, waves of immigration, the chasm between rich and poor: these are issues that surface throughout American history-and still resonate today. Canalside Tale, an intense new novel set in the year 1880, brings to life the human drama behind these issues. Detective Danny "Brick Fist" Doyle polices one of most crime-ridden precincts in the world, the notorious Canal District of Buffalo. Despite a fearsome, and oftentimes wayward reputation, he is viewed as a useful tool by the department. However, when investigating a society murder and industrial disaster, he resists a rush to judgment as demanded by his superiors. Instead, he embarks upon a redemptive quest for the truth that leads him into conflicts with crime lords, corrupt officials and a bigoted tycoon. Set against the backdrop of powerful elites and struggling masses, Canalside Tale takes the reader on an exciting journey through Irish Hoolies, Victorian mansions, forbidden affairs, pestilent sweatshops, elegant receptions, clandestine union meetings and torch-lit political rallies. After winding through a world of colorful and unforgettable characters, the story leads to a surprising yet stirring conclusion.

They are deeply disappointed with the unfaithful characters and lackluster resolution of the novel they've met to discuss. When they agree to each write a richer, more satisfying conclusion in lieu of their next month's selection, none has any idea of the tempests about to erupt in her own world. Their intertwined lives and personal journeys, by turns humorous, sad, touching, and inspiring, furnish the raw ingredients for the new epilogue each writes.

153,95 kr. A troubled young man in search of a new life has decided to ruin his old one - by leaving his wife with no explanation, and seemingly at first, no reason. However, through flashbacks and memories, he realizes the severity of his mistake, only to find that his chance at reconciliation is useless when she wants nothing to do with him upon his return. What comes out of these encounters are moments of pain, loss, anger and reflection - all of which mesh together in a brutally honest and harrowingly poetic conclusion. It is not only a novel about choice, but about morality - what love can do to our thoughts, how it shapes our rationalizations about ourselves, and what we can learn from these days and nights where we are left to our own devices, wondering about the what ifs.

- Early History of Tomahawk Wisconsin 1886-1924
228,95 kr. A little more than 125 years ago, a hardy group of businessmen and ordinary folks carved out a city among the pines of northern Wisconsin where the Somo, Tomahawk and Wisconsin Rivers converge. Founded on the vision of one man, William H. Bradley, a millionaire lumberman from Maine, the city of Tomahawk literally 'sprang up over night.' Through Bradley's foresight, Tomahawk boasts unusually wide streets, beautifully parked areas and boulevards, and a wide open welcoming business thoroughfare. Today, businesses are still flourishing, pines are still standing, and the population of the city has increased three fold. Boomtown, is a historical account of the early years of Tomahawk, including biographical information on pioneers, prominent citizens and ordinary folks.

- Allergy Friendly Recipes The Whole Family Will Enjoy
228,95 kr. BLACK AND WHITE VERSION This is a book of recipes that people with certain allergies can eat and the entire family can enjoy. In this case, the foods are free of eggs, dairy products, peanuts and tree nuts. This book is about making recipes with everyday ingredients found in your kitchen without causing you to spend $30 to make a pan of brownies. I have striven to make sure that these ingredients are not complicated or expensive. Some years ago, when my youngest son was nine months old, we learned that he was allergic to eggs, dairy products, peanuts and tree nuts. This was' at first' a difficult and frightening diagnosis, but it gave me inspiration to learn to cook for him and the family and then to write this book. In the beginning, I would prepare something for my son and something else for the rest of the family. This got old fast. I began by taking some of my grandmother's recipes and substituted allergy friendly ingredients for the offending ones. The results were fantastic and the foods were delicious. You can bring them to parties and gatherings and no one would guess that they are non-allergic. There are allergy free foods here that cannot be purchased in stores, such as cinnamon rolls, donuts, marshmallow fluff and sponge candy. My purpose here is to make cooking for a family member with certain food allergies less intimidating. I hope all readers find some things in this book they can use and enjoy.

118,95 kr. Fragility. The word conjures images of something breakable. In the broad sense, it can apply to many things. Nature is fragile in the face of a storm. Human relationships are fragile, as are our relationships with God, and our understanding of ourselves. Dreams are fragile, those we chase and those we set aside. In her first collection of poems, Sinead Tyrone brings out many concepts of fragility. Hold her individual images up, one at a time, to contemplate and to treasure the fragility that moves in and around your own life.

173,95 kr. Joseph P. Cahan doesn't want much. The recent college grad wants to see his first published story en route to a writing career. He wants to pursue this path in his New York hometown, aside his Irish family and life-long friends who live for football, stout and the Stones. He wants to move on from a tumultuous Dylan-soundtracked romance that had to end. It's not much-but he wants it all. Unfortunately, in the nine months following his 2001 graduation, Cahan finds these seemingly simplistic desires not so easy to realize. Told through the voice of an idealistic Cahan, Running with Buffalo is about understanding a present that longs for the past, while perpetually trying to figure out an uncertain and frightening future. It's a humorous and heartfelt testimonial about life's fearsome complexities, unanticipated changes, and the simple truths that could quell the intensity of it all. It's about the uneven journey to find a place to call home. And for Cahan, it's about running with Buffalo.
