This is the story of Lieutenant-General Horrocks' famous 30 Corps, from its arrival in France during Operation Overlord in June 1944, through to the end of the war with Germany. It relates how the corps fought, and where, and is illustrated with 46 good colour maps. 30 Corps engaged in the capture of Antwerp, the advance to Arnhem, the Battle of the Ardennes, the Reichswald Forest, and was also heavily involved in the fighting that preceded the Rhine crossings. This is a well-thought-out large format history that was originally published by the BAOR c.1946, in a limited edition. A superb corps history of often difficult and bloody operations.

One hundred and twenty military figures are shown, and form part of our developing range of books dedicated to Uniformology. Drawing on the Anne SK Brown Military Collection, Ray has selected a most useful collection of works by Charles Lyall. Covering a broad span of subjects from the 17th, 18th and early 19th century, this series of illustrations is a good reference work for the military modeller and historian, and inspiration for the wargamer who needs to build his army.Lively commentary from expert Ray Westlake on each plate enhances their usefulness for the modern uniformologist.

The Volunteer Corps and their mounted component the Yeomanry Cavalry were a voluntary part-time organisation for the purpose of home defence in the event of invasion, during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The Corps typically drew its members from the propertied classes. Officers were usually members of the gentry and the enlisted ranks tended to be from the lower middle classes. The failed Expédition d'Irlande of 1796 and invasion at Fishguard caused the expansion of the corps, including the formation of workplace units in which the enlisted ranks were filled by the workmen and the officers were drawn from the clerks and foremen. Such units, made up of working-class men, became more common in the late 1790s and early 1800s due to the increased fear of invasion.Ray has made a fine selection from contemporary plates, showing both Officer and rank and file volunteers, displaying their fantastic unrestrained uniforms in ceremonial, manoeuvre, posed and drill settings. One hundred and one military plates are shown and form part of our developing range of books dedicated to uniformology, that draw on seminal works and from the 18th and 19th century. They are masterpieces of military art, and important historical reference works.

Facsimile of the memorial souvenir to the British Battalion XV International Brigade, in the Spanish Civil War, including a Roll of Honour. After the Civil War was eventually won by the Nationalists, the International Brigades were initially on the 'wrong side' of history. However, with WW2 the 'brigadistas' gained prestige as the first guard of democracy, as having foreseen the danger of fascism and gone to fight it. Retrospectively, it was clear that the war in Spain was a precursor of the Second World War. Reproduced complete with programme, song sheet and small colour poster that pledges to fight until fascism has been destroyed.

This is an important title from a noted pioneer of naval aviation and of the early development of the tank. Sueter became Secretary of the Landships Committee. He was one of the Naval officers most closely involved in the establishment of the first Armoured Car Force. Contains useful information including the performance of tanks in action, also covering post-WW1 development. This naval involvement in the tank's development explains such nautical tank terms as hatch, hull, bow and ports. As might be expected, after being relieved of command in 1917, his tone is highly controversial. After leaving the Royal Navy he advised the United States and France on the development of armour.

The aphorism usually attributed to the French statesman Count Mirabeau, that Prussia was "not a country with an army but an army with a country", remains two centuries later a common way of introducing a discussion of 18th and 19th century Prussia. This is a compilation edition of three wonderful 19th century series of colourful military costume plates, detailing the pre-unification Prussian Army, in accurately hand-coloured images, complete with lively commentary from expert Ray Westlake on each individual plate.Over 400 military figures are shown in their 'natural surroundings': camping, in battle, on horseback, on the march, etc. This edition forms part of our developing range of books dedicated to uniformology. During the Second World War, the 4th Indian Division was in the vanguard of nine campaigns in the Mediterranean theatre, Egypt, Eritrea, Syria, Tunisia, Italy and Greece. The 4th Division captured 150,000 prisoners and suffered 25,000 casualties, more than the strength of a whole division. It won over 1,000 honours and awards, which included four Victoria Crosses and three George Crosses. Field Marshal Lord Wavell wrote: "The fame of this Division will surely go down as one of the greatest fighting formations in military history."

Facsimiles of thirty one excellent and accurately coloured plates of the uniforms of different Prussian regiments under Frederick the Great by wood engraver Eduard Kretzschmar (1807-1858) and illustrator Adolf von Menzel (1815-1905).Upon ascending to the Prussian throne in 1740, Frederick the Great attacked and annexed the rich Austrian province of Silesia in 1742, winning military acclaim for himself and Prussia. He became an influential military theorist whose analyses emerged from his extensive personal battlefield experience and covered issues of strategy, tactics, mobility and logistics. His most significant accomplishments include his military successes in the Silesian wars, his reorganisation of the Prussian Army, the First Partition of Poland, and his patronage of the arts and the Enlightenment. Frederick was the last Hohenzollern monarch titled King in Prussia, declaring himself King of Prussia after annexing Polish Prussia from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1772. Prussia greatly increased its territories and became a major military power in Europe under his rule. He became known as Frederick the Great and was nicknamed 'Old Fritz'.

An excellent visual presentation of the Prussian Army and their uniforms under the Kaiser Friedrich Wilhelm IV. Facsimiles of a fine series of 36 numbered contemporary hand-coloured lithographs. This is a colourful series of military costume plates with over 200 military figures in their 'natural surroundings': camping, in battle, on horseback, on the march, etc. Starting with the Garde du Corps in their Gala uniforms, there are plates of the Garde Cuirassier, Garde Husaren, Garde Ulanen-Regiment, Garde Dragoner, Garde Regiment zu Fuss, Garde Jäger, Blücher'sches Husaren-Regiment, Gendarmes, etc. Plate 8 shows the uniforms of the Kaiser Franz and Kaiser Alexander Grenadier-Regiment. It contains uniforms with the alterations which were introduced under Friedrich Wilhelm IV, especially the well-known so-called 'Pickelhaube'. The Pickelhaube was originally designed in 1842 by King Frederick William IV of Prussia, perhaps as a copy of similar helmets that were adopted at the same time by the Russian military.

The role of this division is also duplicated by a much larger work: the book by Brig. M. R. Roberts. However, this booklet gives a good account of Kohima and Imphal and the crossing of the Irrawaddy. In 1945, the division was flown into Siam, so becoming the first Allied formation to re-enter South East Asia.

Arakan, RagoonThis is a history of the division said later by the Japanese to have been the opponent which they most feared. The 26th held the Allied monsoon line in the Arakan during two such seasons, repulsing every attack launched against it. Later it made a series of leap-frog landings down the coast to clinch the issue in the Arakan. It was the first division to enter Ragoon, invading the city from the sea.

"Your papers, please"Identity documents were found everywhere in German-occupied Europe The original purpose of this official 1944 SHAEF book was to make counterintelligence officers familiar with the different categories of identity and other documents carried by the citizens of Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg. They include: Military Status; Travel Documents, including documents allowing entrance into or residence in Prohibited Coastal Areas; Ration Cards; Curfew Passes; Vehicle Permits etc. Some of the documents shown are not strictly identity documents, but were included because they were necessary for specified civilian activities. The book gives a thorough look at the minutia of the bureaucratic administration of German-occupied Europe through the documents of the military administration's civilian occupation regime. These historical documents are now extremely collectable. This original core reference gives reliable information to the purpose of issue, with actual-size colour illustrations of the artefact (front, back and internal), along with a physical description and issuance regulations.
