These poems mostly obey the old rules: they rhyme, they scan, they are in iambic pentameter. Most of them are Shakespearean style sonnets. Those that are longer are also in iambic pentameter, and rhyme. The subject of the collection is the nature of the soul's relationship with the Divine within. Who can do justice to that? None of us, not really, But I thought I'd try.'

The founding Bangladeshis have been in the borough of Tower Hamlets from the late 19th century, over 150 years minimum, from the days of the lascars and The East India Company. Like all new communities setting up, it takes a while to settle in and foundations become a necessity to build. The forefathers, the early sailors who were the pioneers of the early twentieth century such as Sowab Ali Munshi, Nowab Ali and Ayub Ali Master and many others insured that the foundation stones be laid. Since then, from the 1920's Ayub Ali Master, and other set up bases in the form of the homes primarily, and then cafes to look after their countrymen arriving from their country and other areas of United Kingdom. This book records the legacies they left behind and new ones created by the present generations in the East End of London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

The author having found himself writing riveting short stories has entered into the realm of poetry, proses and further creative styles. Like the authors stories his poems captivate you and enthrals one in the subject; to the point one is being tested and can't help but to to feel that it matters, living matters to us all.

More than what you wanted to know about this placid community who in just 46 years have cemented their place in the world. A community that has their roots from the 13th century and has been formidable for the Mughals and to the East India Company. A region dense with forest and tucked away in Assam of hindustan (Now Bangladesh, India), with their own culture and religion, the region of water, floods in particular, fish eaters. From there they found their way to the shores of the world ports and established the foundation with a high personal costs. Today the Sylheti are in the driving seats of their life in United Kingdom. Re-Awakening on the steps of Royal London takes the readerback more than three decades, to a time when the activities of the far right political parties were active in the Bethnal Green area of London.It looks at the challenges which faced the communities living in the area at that time and how they coped with the intimidation and outright racism which manifested itself on the very streets where they lived. From the late 60's, all through the 90's and to the present day.Re-Awakening on the steps of Royal London is a record of one man's involvement in the demonstrations which defined the time and contributed to the defeat of hatred and the lack of inclusion and acceptance that was prevalent.Told in stories of the times and from the photographs taken by the author, Re-Awakening on the steps of Royal London is a moving account of how a community came together to beat the haters and ultimately remove them from the streets.

They were many, such as Tassaduk Ahmed, Altaf Ali, Ayub Ali Master and others who started the cogs turning and brought about changes for the community; one such change was capacity building for the youth of their time. Then the community needed to take the reign of living in UK by getting into the decision making systems. So in 1982, sadly after the 1978 murder of Altab Ali, the community leaders put forward seven Independent councillors to contest the seats in key wards in Tower Hamlets. The effort did not go to waste, we had the first two Bangladeshi councillors out of eleven contesting in four wards, St Katharine's, St Mary's, Spitalfields and Weavers. Out of which the Labour party candidate won in St Katharine's Ward and one Independent seat in Spitalfields. The community finally got in but it took many years before shifting the balance and directly addressing the deprivation and lack of investment in the borough and this book recognises and celebrates the councillors.
