The manuscripts that form the Greek New Testament are scattered throughout the world and are usually only accessible to scholars and professionals. These were the manuscripts read by the earliest Christians, which comprised their "New Testament." In his volumes, Philip Wesley Comfort bridges the gap between these extant copies and today's critical text by providing accurate transcriptions of the earliest New Testament manuscripts, with photographs on the facing pages so readers can see the works for themselves. Comfort also provides an introduction to each manuscript that summarizes the content, date, current location, provenance, and other essential information, including the latest findings. This allows students and scholars to make well-informed decisions about the translation and interpretation of the New Testament. Volume 1 includes manuscripts from Papyrus 1-72. Volume 2 includes manuscripts from Papyrus 75-139 as well as from the uncials. In addition, it features a special section on determining the date of a manuscript. This two-volume set replaces the previously published single volume Text of the Earliest New Testament Greek Manuscripts, as it contains many new manuscripts, updated research, and higher quality images of all manuscripts previously covered. "For nearly a generation, Philip Comfort's The Text of the Earliest New Testament Greek Manuscripts (Tyndale House, 2001) has been an almost indispensable tool for the many students and scholars who know biblical Greek but whose only acquaintance with the earliest Greek manuscripts is through the textual apparatus of the Nestle or UBS text. This work provides introductions to all the early papyri, plus the actual texts in readable printed Greek. Who could ask for more? Only the passage of time requires more, and Philip Comfort has now supplied it, with a very welcome update of forty-nine more papyri (published since 2001), as well as papyri and uncials of the fourth century. This is a major achievement giving more and more of us a place at the table."-- J. Ramsey Michaels, Missouri State University "As a scholar and teacher-preacher, I need to know the evidence for the dating of a particular book and the evidence for the best reading of the text. The compiled Greek New Testaments are handy, but they do not give me enough information. In these present volumes, I get what I want and need for the roughly 190 of the earliest manuscripts rather than relying on cryptic footnotes or chasing around the world to find the actual manuscripts themselves. These volumes include photographs of the manuscripts, discussion of their dating, and transcriptions of their texts. Thank you Philip Comfort and the publisher. I hope the binding is sturdy, for the books will be used." Peter H. Davids, -- Houston Graduate School of Theology "The first edition of this book filled a very important need in bringing the earliest New Testament manuscripts in a single space. This second edition only enhances the work's usefulness as it includes more than one hundred new manuscripts. The discussion of the dating of the manuscripts will be of considerable value. All those interested in New Testament textual criticism will find this as an essential tool." -- John N. Oswalt, Asbury Theological Seminary "A life's work, now available for the New Testament exegete. This great work presents clear access to the earliest New Testament Greek manuscripts. A magnum opus by Philip Comfort, these useful volumes of the papyri and uncials, provide beyond what students see in the critical apparatus of the Nestle and UBS texts. This is a must-have resource for New Testament exegesis, giving immediate access to the text of each manuscript dated from AD 100 to AD 400. It is a book every New Testament scholar will grow into, as their skills in New Testament exegesis progress. This is a great bargain." -- Jim Swanson, Tyndale House Publishers "The earliest manuscripts are a topic of reflection and debate when it comes to the New Testament text. This book gives you the latest, up close look at the first four centuries of manuscripts. This a useful study that reveals the state of the discussion about these important manuscripts."-- Darrell L. Bock, Dallas Theological Seminary "This book is an indispensable resource for all students of the New Testament, especially those engaged in New Testament textual criticism. All the features that made the first edition an invaluable reference for the study of the Greek New Testament remain in place. The expanded edition of the volume includes the additional papyri and another fifty manuscripts dated from the fourth century AD. Kudos to the author and publisher for collecting all these New Testament Greek manuscripts in a most readable and accessible two-volume format. My high commendation for this edition of the book is only reinforced by the success of its predecessor." -- Andrew Hill, Wheaton College

  • - Transforming Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law Relationships

The caricatures are everywhere, the jokes are inexhaustible, and the stereotypes fill the screens. From Marie Barone (Everyone Loves Raymond) to Viola Fields (Monster-in-Law) to Internet sites and social media pages like ihatemyinlaws.com and a Facebook page for ihatemymotherinlaw there is no shortage of examples of the caustic relationships that can develop between the two women in a man's life.Deb DeArmond and her three daughters-in-law have conducted their own exhaustive research into the status of the women-in-law relationship. Their research, which incorporated online surveys, interviews, and discussions, included asking about the faith factor in the relationships they studied. Of the respondents, nearly 90 percent claimed they were Christians, and 79 percent said their faith was foundational and guided their actions and decisions. As discouraging as it may be, the numbers of those they surveyed who reported that their women-in-law relationships were "bad" were nearly identical to those in a survey conducted by a popular secular website that recorded no statistics on faith.Beyond the statistics and their analysis, Deb brings to this book more than thirty years working with adults to improve communications and deal constructively with conflict. Aside from her research and her professional expertise, perhaps the most important asset Deb brings to this work is her own relationship with her three daughters-in-law that is so obviously and unusually positive that she--and they--are often asked to explain the secret of the relationships they share. This practical and unapologetically scriptural book covers issues of personal perceptions, strained communication, the roles of sons and fathers in the relationship's success, how to begin these relationships on the right foot, and the necessity of trust and love. Deb's one motivating objective is to help women-in-law move from women who are simply related to strong and confident members of a truly spiritual family.

Women compare constantly--on social media, in their neighborhood, at church, even in the school drop-off lane. They glance sideways and ask themselves, How do I measure up? All this assessment feels like a natural way of finding a place in the world. But it pulls them into feelings of inferiority or superiority, guiding them into a trap of antagonism by the enemy. Satan would like women to strive to measure up, constantly adding to a tally sheet that can't ever be balanced. The way of Jesus is completely upside down from that philosophy. Instead, he says the last shall be first--and the greatest are those who empty themselves, lay down their lives, and serve each other. Through conversations Jesus had and parables he shared, Shannon Popkin has created a seven-week Bible study to address this tendency to compare and judge ourselves and others. Each chapter is divided into lessons, allowing women on a time budget to read a Bible passage, engage in a complete train of thought related to the topic, and then make the content personal--all in one sitting. And the informal teaching tone will make women feel like they're meeting with a trusted friend. Suited for both individual and group study, Comparison Girl will guide women to leave their measure-up ways behind, connect with those around them, and break free from the shackles of comparison!

Greek clauses are accompanied by an original English translation. --

Surveying scripture, church history, and theology, sixteen contributors present a defense of the full and equal authority and majesty of all three members of the Trinity while critiquing approaches that border on semi-Arianism. Readers will learn why the strong statement of the equality of the Father and Son made at the council of Nicaea is necessary for a biblical and evangelical faith, having significant impact on our doctrine of God and the person of Christ. While some contributors hold complementarian and some egalitarian viewpoints, all agree that gender roles are not a proper basis for understanding Trinitarian relationships.

"Many women live with a relentless flow of anxious thoughts that distract, intrude, and exhaust-and this leaves little time to worship God or serve those around us. Trusted leader Sue Edwards points to an unexpected biblical story that can lead to a way out of these anxieties: the book of Ruth. Unlike how it is often presented, Ruth's story isn't a Hollywood romance and Boaz isn't the hero. God is. He shows tender care for Naomi and Ruth, remaining faithful even in hopeless situations. Moreover, their lives demonstrate how he consistently lifts women into significant roles in his redemptions story, whether or not they're considered culturally important. Written for women of all generations and walks of life, "Ruth" is an inclusive Bible study with a flexible format and multilevel questions to fit varied lifestyles"--

Kerux Commentaries enable pastors and teachers to understand and effectively present the main message in a biblical text Each volume uniquely combines the insights of an experienced Bible exegete (trained in interpretation) and a homiletician (trained in preaching). These two authors work together to explain the essential message for the original listeners or readers, unpack its timeless truth, and then provide a contemporary restatement and communication insights for the key biblical concept. Psalms, Volume 1: The Wisdom Psalms includes psalms with themes perpetuated in Old Testament wisdom literature such as Job, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes. These psalms extol God as the author of wisdom, contrasting the righteous, who acknowledge and follow God's ways, with the wicked, who rebel against him. Likewise, wisdom psalms praise God's special revelation of his laws and promises. The psalmists commend the virtue of pursuing God's truth and teaching. Marlowe and Savelle explore these psalms' original significance for their ancient audience and use this knowledge to reveal where and how God continues to speak through the wisdom psalms today. Readers will be empowered to teach and preach the Psalms with a renewed perspective.

"Early Pines is a man at loose ends. On temporary leave from his job as a detective with the Paradise Police Department, he's a man with too much time on his hands. And, at just over three years sober, empty time isn't easy time. When his old friend, cowboy ex-priest, Jake Morales, invites him to tag along to a Tucson rodeo, he jumps at the distraction. Maybe the interstate would have been a better idea. A blown pickup tire, a flat spare, a hundred and six degrees - not good. No choice but to thumb a ride to the nearest town. If you can call it a town. One Horse, Arizona, is exactly what it sounds. A gas station-garage that hasn't seen paint since the fifties, a few scattered adobes, centered by a sun bleached and sagging tavern called Bob's Place. The woman behind the bar is definitely not Bob. Tall, dark, and desert beautiful, Cleo Lane inherited the place from her deceased father. She loves One Horse, but she's up to her ears in problems. The bar barely makes ends meet, and on top of it, she has a sister, Cali, out on the coast that seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. Early's got the time - a road trip would do him good. And, besides, the lady is definitely not a Bob. A long drive with a lady like Cleo? Just what the doctor ordered"--

"When she was fifteen years old, Leslie King ran away from an abusive home, looking for a better life and longing for real love. What she found instead was a man who wooed her just long enough to trap her in a life of prostitution. She became one of the many thousands of trafficked individuals in the United States, a number that continues to rise-in the biggest cities and in the most idyllic towns. As is true for so many in similar situations, life was nothing but brokenness and pain for Leslie. After years of hopelessness, she finally decided to take her own life. And then God spoke. With his promise that he was with her and had mighty things for her to accomplish ringing in her ears, she got off the streets, got clean, and got to work on the mission to which he'd called her. Now Leslie is a passionate and heroic advocate for other trafficked women and teenage girls in her community and across the country. More than a gritty, no-holds-barred deliverance story, When Angels Fight includes powerful advice from Leslie and those she's encountered in her work-police officers, judges, and other advocates and activists. She also shows you what YOU can do to make a real difference in your own community. Her call from God includes marshaling others to the cause and equipping them to fight alongside her and the angels who battle for God's children-just as they once fought for her"--
