The multistage depressed collector (MDC) shall be one of the key technologies to achieve the required gyrotron efficiency in the DEMOnstration fusion power plant. For the first time, this work presents a comprehensive study of possible gyrotron MDC concepts. Concepts, only using axisymmetric E- and B-field components are shown to be insufficient. Instead, promising concepts using the E×B drift are proposed. A detailed study of a novel MDC concept using an azimuthal electric field is presented.

Modularization and standardization (M&S) of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems improve end customer value according to lean concepts and principles. However, the implementation of M&S is challenging. The challenges of the implementation were investigated and a guidelines model is developed, based on the executed case studies, the interviews, and literature of M&S. Suggestions to manage the implementation of M&S of MEP systems are made depending on lean concepts and tools.

This work concerns the characterization of high-temperature superconducting REBCO Roebel cables for use in accelerator magnets. The effects of bending, torsion and compressive stress on the cable are investigated. The second part concerns the effect of inter-strand resistance on the cable properties. A two-parameter model is proposed to describe inter-strand connections and predict the effect on AC loss and stability. Additionally, the AC loss and stability are experimentally investigated.

Within this work, the pairing mechanism of conventional (Pb) and unconventional superconductors (SrFe2(As1-xPx )2 , FeSe, FeSe/STO) was investigated experimentally by means of elastic and inelastic tunneling spectroscopy at temperatures down to 30 mK. The distinction between elastic and inelastic contributions to tunneling data was elaborated. The results help to identify conventional (phonon-mediated) and unconventional (e.g. spin-¿uctuation mediated) superconductivity.
