This report of the ILAE Child Neuropsychiatry Taskforce, Neuropsychobiology Commission, was published as an e-supplement in Epileptic Disorders (Volume 8, May 2016), educational journal of the International League Against Epilepsy. Psychiatric and behavioural problems are reported to occur in 35-50% of children with epilepsy. They affect the quality of the childrens and their families lives in a very challenging manner. The ad hoc Commissions and Taskforces of the International League Against Epilepsy are regularly following progress made in the field, also promoting a larger diffusion of existing knowledge and future research. The present report is a state-of-the-art critical review, putting together numerous data concerning topics such as epidemiology, pharmacotherapy, the effects of antiepileptic drugs and epilepsy surgery, the relationships between epilepsy and many psychiatric disorders. It also points out the specific areas in need of controlled trials, such as early diagnosis and management. This report was published as an e-supplement in Epileptic Disorders (Volume 8, May 2016), educational journal of the International League Against Epilepsy.

The need for neuropathology reviews in epilepsy surgery tissues steadily increases. However, textbooks and case presentations highlighting and focusing on this specific topic are rare. The authors of this book reviewed their professional experience in surgical and post-mortem europathology studies to compile a coherent summary of clinico-pathological findings, current classification schemes, useful protocols and research data for major histopathological entities of brain lesions encountered in modern epilepsy surgery programs, which is hippocampal sclerosis, brain tumours associated with early epilepsy onset, malformations of cortical development, brain inflammation and malformative vascular lesions. They did not intend to be exhaustive but rather representative of the main lesions and pathologies encountered. Thirty-two illustrated cases constitute the core of this book and will be very helpful in current practice.

Written by international experts from different fields, it aims to provide professionals from neuroscientists to clinical neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuropaedia-tricians dealing with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy, with a concise overview on the current body of knowledge and on emerging concepts and findings.
