Steve Crabill has always loved a good story, and believes that when we hear or tell a story, especially a true one, it gives us a commonality and triggers something in our hearts. Steve has been telling stories since he was a kid. He has been writing stories for twelve years and has been published in "Thunder Run", a quarterly magazine for his beloved 11th Armored Cavalry Association. As a member of Chesapeake Bay Writers, he recently won first place in their All Star Gala Writing Competition. He enjoys reading his creative non-fiction short stories with this writers group every month. His collection of stories have appeal for a wide range of ages. Baby boomers will relate to many of them, but older and younger generations will find enjoyment reading them as well. The reader is taken on a journey. This journey gives pictures of life in all its magic, mystery, and even the brutality of war. How about stepping in dog doo and having to ride home on the roof of the family car, for instance? Sound familiar? No? Okay then: you're working in a veterinary hospital as a teenager, and you have to tell a beautiful young woman that her dog is dead! No problem, she shed not a tear! Just all in a day's work, and weird work, too! On we go, right to edge of insanity in South East Asia. A twenty-two year old tank driver with nine lives. How does one mainstream back into the "flower child" community after this? It ain't easy! Step right up folks, you are going to be pulled up, down, and sideways through Steve Crabill's narrative . There will be situations where the reader will be asking (along with the author), "Why the hell did this happen?" Usually there won't be an answer. That is what makes life more interesting, isn't it? Steve wants his writing to open the door to that part of our heart that reminds us we go through life only once. He believes we all have a wonderful commonality of sharing life's experiences. As Steve says, "I'll show you mine, if you'll show me yours!"

Sometimes we choose our path. Sometimes it is chosen for us. Sometimes we have no choice at all. Joel Finnigan was a man who experienced all three... Orphaned at an early age, bravely stepping in to fight for his country as a young man, and sacrificing a love that was meant to be, Joel Finnigan is a man of honor and courage. Althea Burnside, a brash young woman whose search for love and success has led her from one disastrous relationship to another, is a writer faced with the most astonishing discovery of her lifetime: what true love should be. When Joel meets Althea, his world is turned upside down. What is he going to do about this pushy reporter who wants to change his world and unearth long-buried secrets he would rather ignore? Does he deny her existence, or can Joel and Althea help each other become the people they are meant to be? Becoming Finnigan is an epic novel that begins in World War II and ends the day before 9/11. It is a history lesson, a lesson in faith and a tribute to the adage that we are never too old or too jaded to find love.

"A life of service is a life well and greatly lived." ― Omoakhuana Anthonia Having begun my writing career in my mid-sixties, I never ran short of life experiences to write about. Where younger writers face the dreaded "writer's block," the advice "Write about what you know," is often marginally helpful. It has worked for me. I have built this book around things I have done, ideas I have had, and emotions I felt strongly about. It contains some of my favorite poems written in my first twenty years of writing as well as many relatively new unpublished works. The latter category includes responses to the devastating impact of losing my loving partner of more than sixty-three blessed years of marriage. Those wounds are indeed deep and lasting. My years in the Emerson Society of Williamsburg produced numerous essays on a variety of topics. Several were written from research conducted on U.S. Navy history - a favorite topic of mine. Others included leadership training, risky childhood experiences, golfing exploits, and English language peculiarities. However, Part 4 of the book contains six essays detailing actual experiences I had as a Navy officer. I needed no notes to write these essays; the events are still permanently etched in my mind - fifty years later. One advantage of taking up writing as a third career is that I fully intended to remain active and productive in retirement and I enjoy writing. So now, with the freedom to do so, I could put to use my leadership and management skills gained through 20 years as a Navy officer followed by 20 years of executive positions in business. has contributed immeasurably to the joys and fulfillment of my retirement goals. I have known and worked with wonderful people throughout my life; I have love for all and ill will toward none. I am truly blessed.

This book is an invitation to explore the Christian faith. The exploration is focused, as the subtitle suggests, on the issues of life, love, and eternity. This book is not for you if you believe in a God, who makes lots of rules, and you feel you can live with these rules pretty well, and look forward to the day all those sinful people out there really get blasted. If, on the other hand, you've been raised with a belief in that kind of God and it scares you, read on! This book has been written by an ordinary Christian layman for ordinary laypersons. You may be active in the Church; you may be seeking, or you may be downright questioning. That's OK. You'll find this book readable and helpful in thinking through some basic issues of life, love, and eternity. This book can be used for individual meditations or group discussion. Each article is brief, focuses on a single issue, and ends with several questions for reflection. Many articles contain vivid little images from everyday life that will grab attention and help make sense. Any of the reflection questions can lead you deeper, as far as you want to go.

Susan Fisher One is never lonely once you learn to feel the angels in the Marsh, the sky, the water. In Artful Angels the author celebrates through her paintings and poetry the angels she feels in her world. Spend some time with this book and you will begin to feel your own angels. Invite them into your art and you will begin to see them!Sylvia Wright Sikes use of poetic words and colors transports a reader into the world of symbolic colors and words of warmth and comfort. Janice Hoffman This book is timeless and will speak to the souls of its readers/viewers for years to come, and as Sikes says of one of her angels, "When the night turns darkest, she takes the bitterness away." Cindy L. Freeman Whether or not you believe in angels, you will find Mary Montague Sikes' book, Artful Angels to be a work of glittering beauty. In it, she weaves together two aesthetic gifts, poetry and art, in a spellbinding way that any reader can appreciate. The vibrant colors depicted in her art pieces echo through her hypnotic use of verse. For seekers of spiritual understanding, this book holds the potential to facilitate deep meditation.Sharon Dorsey This is a beautiful book, by a talented author and artist, to be enjoyed again and again, bringing inspiration - in times of difficulty and in times of joy. Alexander "Alec" Ream Artful Angels, the work of Mary Montague Sikes exudes a magnetic purity, approaching Edenic - evocative of Tolkien's Goldberry the River Daughter and Tom Bombadil.Martha Hall Creative people often credit a muse, or a source of inspiration for their work, something that draws them out of themselves and into an uncharted space where their mind is stimulated, set free and allowed to roam and explore. For some, the muse may be a person. For others, it may be some aspect of nature, like the sea or forest, or a sound, like the wind. For Mary Montague Sikes, it is a sense of the presence of angels, unseen and yet deeply perceptible beings who inspire her to look at ordinary objects in an extraordinary way, to make new out of old, and to express herself in fresh, yet familiar terms.Diane Rebertus Monti's freeform images are beautiful! By showing freeform angel images the reader can extrapolate that angels can be found in other places.....nature, the sky, water, the kitchen, sitting on the porch, anywhere - you just have to look...angels are everywhere! Marilyn Meredith Artful Angels is a remarkable book both to read and enjoy the artwork. It would make a perfect gift for many occasions. Joyce Carr Stedelbauer Sikes invites us into our quiet place to "take a deep breath and discover the majesty of angels all around." With her sensitive soul she paints this ethereal world that we seldom enter. With tender color, gentle brush and the language of awe she allows us her exquisite view of this world of wonder.Lynn Underwood For me this little book is filled with joy! The combination of beautiful art and magnificent poetry can bring the reader to tears of joy. The vibrant colors of the art match the effervescent quality of the poetry.

I did not make this journey to transformation alone. In my first book in this trilogy - The Journey - I spoke of the trials of growing up in a divided nation and being judged on the color of my skin. Transformation is my quest to find meaning in my life. There were many obstacles to finding that meaning, and it was not achieved by my own light, but by the light of others who took me through my darkest times. Thank you Craig, Mama, Connie, Coach Hayes, Bridget and Nick for your never failing love and support that guided me through the fire.

In 2001, a class of second graders illustrated a book written by Joyce Carr Stedelbauer. The teacher had each illustrator look up an animal book and draw a picture to represent what they had learned. The result is the charming book The Awesome Alphabet Animal's Party. In 2018, Joyce presented the story to us at High Tide Publications. We love it! The result is the book we offer today. In a world where children are overwhelmed by fancy drawings, video games, and television animation, we believed in this book as it offers a window into the imagination of kids. Drawn from the minds of seven-year-olds, it is a wonderful example of the relationship between kids and art. Advance Praise for The Awesome Alphabet Animal's Party: Combine the crisp, precise wit of Joyce Stedelbauer's poetry with the comical illustrations of second graders and you have a book that will amuse and delight children of all ages. Her vignettes and musings, often with subtle humor, may well assist others in journeying from sorrow to healthy acceptance and renewed fulfillment following the biblical directive "Take Courage". For this challenging transition, " Some assembly is definitely required"! Agnew Swynford, IIIHow am I to feel? What am I to do? Who am I? There are no right or wrong answers when our loved one passes. Joyce shares some of her own thoughts to these questions with an honesty grounded in her faith. Each day, as I read each chapter I began to find some of my own answers to this unexpected journey. Lindy Warrick, Educator, Pastor's wifeFor many years Joyce was the beautiful and intriguing woman who I observed across the aisle at church hoping to know someday. Taking her seat each Sunday morning alongside her tall and handsome George, I noticed their smiles, their kindnesses to others, their warmth and their glow. Seven years later I am blessed by our "intentional" introduction as we became friends with hearts bended in prayer for family, friends and our faith. With a heart broken by her loss in 2019, Joyce responded to my prayerful and selfish whispered encouragement and poured herself out in her writing. In this brilliant story poetry and quiet masterpiece Joyce courageously shares her wound-ed soul following the loss of the love of a lifetime. Joyce's beautiful love story takes us on a journey to the deepest intimate aches of missing someone and to the heights of thankfulness for loving a spouse so completely. God moves with infinite love through the love story of George and Joyce. Dianne Howell

During my nearly 50 years of working in intelligence and crime analysis, I have compiled a list of words, acronyms, and abbreviations associated with the profession. About a year ago, it dawned on me that pulling together the most frequent terms, with their definitions, might make a useful resource for all analysts. These definitions come from a large number of United States Intelligence Community members. I do, in some instances, give alternative definitions and indicate from what area or field they come from, such as crime analysis or the military. When I found close definitions of the same word from a number of organizations, I defaulted to the CIA or National Counterterrorism Center definitions. In a few cases I have reworked the definitions to make them fit a wider number of intelligence agencies. Unfortunately when I began making the list I had no idea that someday I would try to publish it, so I cannot identify where I got all the definitions for the acronyms. I plan on updating and/or correcting the list annually. If anyone reading this has additional words or acronyms, and their definitions, to suggest please contact me. The same is true if you find any errors. Given the size of the U.S. Intelligence Community, I am sure I have left out something. I also know that intelligence terminology is not stagnant. So please help me make the list more complete and useful. I hope you find this a useful publication beneficial and helpful for your work.
