A family of three (soon to be four), Mom, Dad and Harry (a boy just turning 5) moved from Chicago to a small family farm in Wisconsin. Harry now has a puppy to care for; Dad just bought a crate of baby chicks which gives Harry learning opportunities -- caring for the chicks as they grow -- the daily supply of food and water, locking the henhouse each night, gathering eggs as they become full-grown. Other chores need doing -- Dad and Harry plant a garden and now it needs tending.-- Harry is a big help, there as well. . But there are fun times, too. Harry's birthday party with new neighbor friends -- playing games, listening to Dad reading a book,, eating popcorn, Mom and Dad are always encouraging Harry, and he is learning to be positive, thoughtful, courteous, determined, and responsible. Alan Garrett comes home to California after a twenty-year career as an Air Force Special Investigator. He sets up shop in Manhattan Beach as a newly-licensed Private Eye. He receives an invitation, and decides to attend his high school twenty-year reunion -- even though he remembers almost none of his fellow graduates. The most exciting thing: he's promised a puppy! Harry's parents teach him valuable lessons in social interaction, proper behavior, and a spiritual foundation. His parents are teaching him well, even calling him out publically (but kindly) when foolishness comes out of his mouth. In his Chicago Brownstone, Harry had but one young friend; here on the farm he has already made friends with four or five neighbor children, and there will be more. Sharing responsiblities is necessary in a rural atmosphere. As the family farm broadens it's scope of industry, Harry finds farmlife comes with chores, sometimes unpleasant -- like rising before the sun comes up. But he looks forward to each day with a willing attitude.
