- Great Singers History: A chronological and photographic documentary
363,95 kr. It is well known that without good music, life would be a mistake, how a great philosopher once said. And that good music must be performed by really talented singers. Starting over 400 years ago, opera singers were always admired for their interpretations, which generate deep emptions, because, as Plato said, "Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue."Great composers, from Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, and Claudio Monteverdi, to Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Giuseppe Verdi, just to name a few, created well-known compositions, and the famous opera singers, from La Florinda and Adamonti, to Adelina Patti, Nellie Melba, Chaliapin and Caruso, and to Amelita Galli-Curci, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Joan Sutherland and Pavarotti, just to name a few, bring to life those magnificent compositions.Using a chronological order, this book has a variety of relevant information not only about them, but also about numerous other personalities and important events. There are also many attractive and historic photographs, which add another visual dimension. The more you read, the more you'll love it! This book brings a rainbow of artistical information, from many places and personalities, and all this information will certainly enhance everybody's joie de vivre. These opera singers are part of our culture, and any reader, from everywhere, will definitely find, in this book of general interest, plenty of useful information, which will help them to better understand our history, and prepare them for a better future.

323,95 kr. Well, many readers said that they like these books, because a picture is worth a thousand words, therefore here we have a treasure of over 200,000 words in this petite book.It is well known that if people want to know who they are and what they want, they need to know who those before them were, and what those old people wanted and did - this book will certainly help to fulfill this need. When I am writing these books, I always have in mind what Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) said: an investment in knowledge pays the best interest. Going from very old places, which were the most advanced at that time, to modern cities, which are very advanced right now, gives a good perspective on the evolution of our civilization. What Campanile was inspired by the famous one from Piazza San Marco, Venice? What ancient market, with over 150 shops and offices, is the origin of our modern malls? What beautiful temples were near the impressive Forum Pompeiorum? All these questions and hundreds more, have their answers in this book. An Appendix adds some good questions for the future generations. The over 200 photos, taken in October and December 2014, with their ample and noticeable explanations, unquestionably show why these places are so important.Berkeley, Rome and Pompeii are very distinguishing and any reader, no matter from what place of the world, will surely find, in this book of general interest, numerous fascinating and beloved images and facts.

- An American viewpoint
518,95 kr. René Descartes (1596 - 1650) elucidated the idea of a separation between the objective reality and the subjective reality, or, in other words, between the exterior world and the interior world. The pre-Cartesian philosophy and literature did not show much interest in this separation between interior and exterior, or between subjective and objective. For example, Aristotle (384 BC - 322 BC) gives the impression to see a harmony between the exterior objects (real forms), feelings and rational thinking (potential form). But before him Plato (circa 428 BC - 347 BC) does not see a harmony between interior and exterior, because the truth and reality can only be found in interior, through memory and rational thinking. It seems that the oriental literature (Tsurayuki, Basho), as the pre-Cartesian literature, does not make a precise distinction between subjective and objective. On the other hand, writers and artists from Europe and America (Dickens, Twain, Hugo, Goethe, Solzhenitsyn, Cervantes, Manzoni, Eminescu) were trying to convince the public to see the world as they were seeing it.Corneliu Leu, in the same Cartesian spirit, uncovers for us a fascinating world that appears live and vibrant in front of our eyes. His books clearly are on the same wavelength with those of Mark Twain, appearing from the depth of the European and American being, with grandeur which flabbergasts even the most refined reader. In this book we chronologically present happenings from Leu's and Twain's lives, as well as many other interesting facts, and conclude with samples of Leu's works. The wealth of the events, personages and places from Corneliu Leu's books, the same like those of Mark Twain's books, represent a valorous contribution to the European and American history and cultural heritage, and will remain as an eloquent testimony for the future generations.

738,95 kr. After receiving many favorable comments and having interesting discussions regarding the Proceedings of the 4th International Conference "Advanced Composite Materials Engineering" COMAT 2012, and the Proceedings of the 5th International Conference "Computational Mechanics and Virtual Engineering" COMEC 2013, we are pleased to present these Proceedings of the 5th International Conference "Advanced Composite Materials Engineering" and the 3rd International Conference "Research & Innovation in Engineering" COMAT 2014. This conference was organized with the important support of Transilvania University of Brasov, Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences and Romanian Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, to whom we thank very much. This conference was dedicated to Professor Ioan Goia, at his 80th birthday, because he was a great Professor at Transilvania University of Brasov for many years, and he supported these conferences from the very beginning. He is an extraordinary Professor, who had astonishing accomplishments, kindness, patience, dedication and optimism. Professor Ioan Goia is a great example for the younger generations, and he is always remembered for his great devotion to teaching and helping students. The research and innovation in engineering in general, and in particular advanced composite materials engineering, are ever more important in everyday activities, and they include, between many other techniques, geometric models, analysis, simulation, optimization and decision making tools, within a computer-generated environment, that accelerates product development, which is the main purpose of any engineering effort. The applications are very diverse and include manufacturing, aerospace, civil engineering structures, communication, geotechnics, flow problems, automotive engineering, predictive surgery, transportation, geo-environmental modeling, biomechanics, electromagnetism, medicine, prediction of natural physical events, and metal forming, just to mention a few. These Proceedings of COMAT 2014 include 50 papers, which analyze many important practical applications. The topics range from energy release rate evaluation in sandwich composite structures to structural synthesis, analysis and design of the modular anthropomorphic grippers for industrial robots, from in-plane vibrations of pinned-fixed heterogeneous curved beams under a concentrated force to modeling and simulation of an acoustic cloak, from the finite elements analysis vs. experimental buckling behavior of the thinwalled plane gussets to the mathematical model of a special vehicle clutch servomechanism. We want to thank very much Professor Sorin Vlase for his remarkable effort and dedication for the organization of this international conference, Professor György Szeidl for his distinguished chairmanship, and the organizing committee for their continuous assistance. We also thank all the conference participants their interesting presentations, and Mrs. Sophia Dediu for her assistance in preparing this volume. There is, certainly, much more that can be said about these engineering research than we presented here. We hope that the papers included here will provide ideas for our audience, and will stimulate more research, development and applications. We look forward to receiving comments and suggestions from our readers.

638,95 kr. How fresh, oh Lord, how sweet and clean are these poems! And what nice and historic photographs, from three continents (America, Europe and Asia), and spanning from this year to over 75 years ago!Ana Dediu (1912 - 2010) was a professor of history, but worked in many different areas, and was very lyrically inclined, navigating that unusual intersection of artless business and very suave poetry. She had a distinctive ability to conceptualize the world around her, and to communicate it, through charming poems, to all of us. Virgil Dediu (1912 - 1986), her husband, an electrical engineer, helped immensely in creating a solid and prosperous family. His example inspired my aphorism: opportunities are anytime and anywhere, but only those who are looking for them and take them first, will harvest the rewards. The efforts of Ana Dediu's daughter-in-law, Sophia Dediu, to prepare this book and to translate the poems, are truly magnificent. What luxurious simplicity and infinite joy to read this fascinating book!

323,95 kr. Lutetia Parisiorum (around 250 BC) is the original Roman name, in Latin, of Paris, and it is mentioned by Julius Caesar (100 BC - 44 BC). Roman Lutetia was initially located on the left bank of the Seine, in the place now called Latin Quarter, with the center close to the present Sorbonne University. Some northern suburbs of Lutetia were on the Île de la Cité, which became the modern center of Paris. The cardo maximus (main axis) of Lutetia is still followed today by the Rue Saint-Jacques on the left bank and the Rue Saint-Martin on the right bank. From these beginnings Paris developed year by year to become the romance capital of the world, and an important research center. Recently researchers there, and their colleagues from the USA, found a new application of mathematics in biology: they used statistical mechanics and mathematical modeling to clarify epigenetic memory, id est how an organism can create a biological memory of some variable condition, for example the quality of nutrition or temperature.A propos, where the physicist Léon Foucault demonstrated the rotation of the earth? What garden is inspired by the Italian parks from Firenze (Florence)? Where was Palais des Tuileries located? All these questions, and hundreds more, have their answers in this book. I was just informed of the passing of the great operatic baritone Nicolae Herlea (1927-2014), who was so much loved and applauded at the opera houses from Paris, New York, Milano, etc.The over 200 photos, taken in October 2013, with their ample and attention-grabbing explanations, irrefutably show why this city is the romance capital of the world. The former Lutetia Parisiorum is very historical and special and any reader, no matter from what place of the world, will certainly find, in this book of general interest, numerous enthralling and cherished images and facts.

133,95 kr. After many years of literature teaching and writing, Prof. Georgeta Potanga presents this fascinating novel about astonishing and little known events from the mid-20th century in Eastern Europe, where Roosevelt, Churchill, Stalin, Hitler and many others had great influence and interests.Based on real events, the author brings to life, with great talent, the vivacious atmosphere of those very difficult times. It is a novel made of shadows and light. The personages, under the Demiurge, succeed to step over the black stones of the physical universe, full feeling their destiny, with a profound humanity. The story follows the immediate antebellum events and the consequences of a brutal war in the life of three generations, showing that there are people who can express an extreme generosity, passing over any ethnic or religious barriers, in their desire to do good. The kindness, benevolence and sympathy of the personages extend universally and impartially to all human beings involved in this fascinating story. Sophia Dediu worked immensely hard for this excellent translation, and we all thank her very much. This is a novel which is read with pleasure and curiosity, and will delight all the readers who like historic events presented in an attractive literary style, and who want to discover many unfamiliar facts from the world's frenzied past.

Examples of research activities include improving single-cell analysis by applying mathematical statistics, a new mathematical theory showing that the concept of a 'species' does not apply to all creatures, and the infinity of time and space (the axioms are in our book "Axioms, aphorisms and quotations - with examples and explanations"). It counts also that Paris is the most lit city in the world, with splendid Art Nouveau lamps, and in 1828 was one of the first cities to adopt gas street lighting. In what Palais l'Assemblée Nationale is located? For instance, in 1570 the first Marché de Noël took place in Strasbourg, but today in Paris there is a splendid Marché de Noël, bringing together artists and artisans selling unique holiday gifts. In Paris there are also excellent computer scientists, who have developed a technique that uses anisotropic triangles (triangles with sides that vary in length depending on their direction) to make 3-D images. The technique is a practical application of the Nash embedding theorem, which was named after the American mathematician John Forbes Nash, Jr.Which is the most visited museum in the world? Where can you find the best church organs? Which is the most spectacular and expensive street in the world? Where is located an Egyptian obelisk from the time of Ramses the Great? All these questions and hundreds more have their answers in this book. 283,95 kr. Rome exists for over 2,500 glorious years, and the ancient Romans built massive concrete structures that have withstood the elements for more than 2,000 years. Recently specialists analyzed samples from a Roman breakwater that has been submerged in the Bay of Napoli (Naples) for over two millennia, and they observed the technique of crystal chemistry that allowed Roman seawater concrete to resist chemical attack and wave action for all this time. It was noted that the manufacture of extremely durable Roman maritime concrete released much less carbon than most modern concrete does these days. Some Roman roads are still in use, and we also celebrated the 1900 years anniversary of Columna Traiani (Trajan's Column), built in 113 AD.Tokyo started around 1150 as a small fishing village named Edo (which means estuary). Between 1603 and 1868 (Edo period), the city Edo developed into one of the biggest cities in the world, with a population of over one million by 1700. Its name was changed to Tokyo (east capital) when it became the imperial capital in 1868. Now the population of the main city is over 9 million people; with the closest suburbs the total population exceeds 13 millions, and Tokyo is the world's most populous metropolitan area, with circa 35 million people. Tokyo also is the world's largest urban cluster economy, with a GDP of over $1.4 trillion. Shvedchikov, who was nominated for the 2013 Nobel Prize in Literature. This book is based on Dr. Shvedchikov's collection of poems, and on their translations in Russian. The book is divided in three chapters, and each poem in English is followed by its Russian version. This new metaphysical poetry book, with unexpected chains of reasoning and incongruous mixes of the physical and spiritual worlds, with an exceptional proclivity for eternal love, will remain, together with the first eight books, on a distinctive and elevated place in the English and Russian literature.
