Cv/VAR 36 takes as its focus two paintings by Johannes Vermeer (1632-75): The Milkmaid c.1661-62 and Woman Holdinga Balance c.1662-65, and considers critical approaches to the artist by four historians Edward A.Snow, Lawrence Gowing, John Michael Montias, and Martin Pops. Its aim is not solely to describe Vermeer's art, but by a process of comparative analysis to discern the various standpoints of his biographers, and to clarify their methodologies in research. The volume includes studies of artists from the early Renaissance to the 20th century: Masaccio; Vermeer; Velázquez; Cézanne; Dali.

London has beenhavng symbolically enough in 2014 a sustained examination of not only art historically northern Europe in general with the National Gallery having looked at the northern renaissance but perhaps far more pertinently contemporary German art of the post war period, enhanced by an original examination of German history at the British Museum. The medium of painting is the prism, with significant showings of Anselm Kiefer, a West German b 1945, and Gerhard Richter b 1932, and Sigmar Polke, 1941-2010, both originally East Germans, who once showed together, and with others invented in the 1960s a brief anarchic movement called capitalist realism. They both studied too at the legendary Dusseldorf Kunstakademie. All of these three titans, their work now in the commercial stratosphere, have engaged profoundly with Germany's past, but Janus like in order to look forward also to a future. Marina Vaizey The Author Marina Vaizey was art critic for the Financial Times for five years and the Sunday Times for eighteen. A historian, lecturer, traveller and collector she has written several books on art and photography. She has served as a Trustee for several national galleries including the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The documentary power and graphic clarity of the medium challenged and persuaded artists such as Degas, Sickert, Andy Warhol and Richard Hamilton, and innumerable creative voices. In their essays Marina and Anne explore the conjunctions and variations where document and dream intermingle, in a revolutionary medium which transformed the classical canons of Western tradition. The volume includes biographical details of leading figures and a guide to National Collections and study centres. of the spectacle of battle and the horrors of war and human conflict.

  • - The Story of Poverty and Suffering, Elation and Hope.
    af Magdalena Wasiura
    518,95 kr.

After my holiday in Morocco in 2012, I felt a terrible need to go back there and for over a year I had been looking for a way to fulfil such desire. It was simply out of my sympathy, admiration and love for those people who have suffered immense poverty and yet who managed to be so generous and hospitable. During my research I stumbled upon a charity called "Hannan" that has been helping the Berber people in the Middle Atlas Mountains. It was established by a couple called Hannah (British) and Hmad (Moroccan); they built a school from scratch in a village called El Borj, where Hmad was born and raised, that now accommodates about 30 children aged 2-5 years old, and currently they are going through tough regulations and money raising (circa £150.000) for the new school for children aged 5-12 years old. They desperately need volunteers to co-ordinate the existing school by helping teachers, managing the paper work, running extra French classes, basically anything that could help children and the organization to progress.
