138,95 kr. The mountain village of Zermatt, Switzerland is nestled in a valley between steep mountains, and it is dominated by the Matterhorn. When you exit your Swiss-red train, and see the cobblestone streets and horses and carriages, you immediately will notice are no cars. The air is clean and fresh, and the people want to keep it that way! The main street bustles with people shopping, dining and having a good time, and there are no tour busses anywhere. In short, everything is cute and fun, and you immediately know where Walt Disney got many of his ideas for Disneyland, as you can see the Matterhorn from nearly every prospective in the Zermatt village. And this is exactly why photographer John D. Weigand and author and poet Penelope Dyan wentthere, to capture some of the magic of Zermatt. It seemed like the perfect spot for kids, nestled in the serenity of the Swiss Alps. . . just waiting to be ogled and explored. The Zermatt nights were even more beautiful than the day as the Weigand photographs portray, but most amazing of all was the Matterhorn, shining white against the sky by day, and full of amazing color by night.

128,95 kr. Messina, is the capital of Sicily. Founded by the Greeks, it has a long history of having to rebuild itself, giving a strength to its inhabitants, who do not readily give in to any adversity as a people. In 1783, an earthquake destroyed much of the city. It took decades to rebuild. Another earthquake damaged the city on November 16, 1894, and Messina was almost entirely destroyed by an earthquake and tsunami. December 28, 1908, that killed approximately 60,000 people and destroyed most of its ancient architecture. The city was rebuilt in the following year. Then there was further damage from massive Allied air bombardments in 1943, during World War II. But this book is not about that, this book is about how all these things impacted and shaped the minds and souls of the people of Messina, Sicily; and this is the real story behind the story.Practice reading skills through word recognition, and through word repetition and rhyme, and think about Messinäs people. Try to imagine the place of antiquity founded by the Greeks and then see more of this place as you watch the free music video that goes with this book, posted on the Bellissimavideo YouTube channel.

133,95 kr. The name "Budapest" came from combining the names of two cities, "Buda" and "Pest." Originally, there were two separate cities. Today they are connected by eight bridges crossing the Danube. The two cities became one city, a single city, in 1873. According to chronicles of the Middle Ages the name "Buda" came from its founder, Bleda (or Buda) the brother of Attila the Hun. There are several theories about the origin of the name "Pest." One of these theories believes the word "Pest," came from the Roman times, since there was a fortress "Contra-Aquincum" in this region called "Pession." Others think the name "Pest" came from the Slavic word for cave "??????, peshtera," or from the word for oven "???, pesht."Budapest began as a Celtic settlement that became the Roman capital of Lower Pannonia. Hungarians arrived in the 9th century. Their first settlement was pillaged by the Mongols in 1241-42.The re-established town became one of the centers of Renaissance humanist culture in the 15th century. Following the Battle of Mohács and after nearly 150 years of Ottoman rule, the region entered an age of prosperity in the 18th and 19th centuries. Budapest became a global city after its 1837 unification. It also became the second capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a great power that dissolved in 1918, after World War I. Since that time, there was revolution and more war. Budapest was a part of the USSR until its break-up and the fall of the Berlin Wall. This book contains a smattering of what you can see and do in Budapest, but not everything. Photographer John D. Weigand and award winning author, attorney and former teacher, Penelope Dyan, traveled there in winter, just before the snow; and were so entranced, they vowed someday to return in the summer and spring. The city of Budapest is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, and there is plenty for a kid to do and see! Dyan and Weigand look at a place through the eyes of a young child to give them a glimpse of what they might see and to let them know, sometimes the world is not such a big place, after all!

133,95 kr. Around every corner there is something to see wherever you go in this world. And around every corner is another corner.Award winning author, attorney and former teacher, Penelope Dyan and John D. Weigand, photographer extraordinaire, have written another travel book with a big purpose. Dyan knows what kids like to see, but sometimes they need a little help when it comes to seeing all the art surrounding them. And in this case we are exploring corners and around corners and we are encouraging kids to explore around corners as well, and especially the corners of their minds. Malaga, Spain is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, and it is fitting that his birthplace should inspire you to learn, paint, write and draw, especially if you explore all around all its corners. If that doesn't make any sense to you, then you are probably too old for this book. Pablo Picasso once said, "There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into sun." We are not here to paint a yellow spot, and no child should paint a yellow spot. A child can paint the sun! When children travel they see with the eyes of a child. It is all about signs, things alike and things different, about animals in the clouds, and dandelions they can blow and watch as seeds float in the wind; and this should be encouraged, not discouraged.

133,95 kr. Sometimes people don't like you just because you are you, and there isn't really anything you can do about it, except to just keep being the great person you are. This book was written to remind everyone who has ever been bullied, made fun of or treated in a mean way (and that just about includes everyone) that this too will pass, and that all you ever need is one true friend. This friend can be anyone. It can be your mother, your father, your grandmother, your sister, your aunt or your uncle or brother. The point is to remember you are never alone, and how you are being treated today may be entirely different from how you are treated when you grow up, because each of you have greatness inside of you.Find out who our protagonist's best friend is and why others made fun of her. It is all rather silly. What you need to to is remember there is nothing wrong with you. There actually something wrong with those who persecute you, just as there is/was something wrong with those Penelope Dyan simply calls "the distractors" in this book. Use this book as a starting point to open a conversation about bullying, what it means and why it is wrong; and explore in conversation why those who do this are merely distractors!
