153,95 kr. In this collection of contemporary short fiction, William Thompson shows characters who must reconcile their pasts in order to find freedom in their present. Whether experiencing death, marriage, or the simple hardships of growing up, each of these characters must somehow come to terms with the past before moving on to something new. Molly in "Teddy" and Melvina in "The End of Summer," struggle to reconcile themselves to a new life and a new home. Younger characters, such as Nick in "Martie" and Jocelyn in "Transformations," are more invested in being themselves and finding a place apart from their families. Placed in both urban and small-town settings, these stories show characters having their lives redefined and having to reinvent themselves as a result. But whether it's in the past or the present, these characters each face a difficult choice about who they are. Filled with striking metaphors and deeply suggestive narratives, this collection takes its inspiration from such writers as Alistair MacLeod, Alice Munro, and Raymond Carver. In these moving-and sometimes funny-pieces, all-too-human characters learn to try and change their lives in the face of whatever comes their way.

- A Paranormal Murder Mystery
163,95 kr. Elizabeth, the sister of nine-year-old Mary Jane Hall, drowned near her home in the backwoods of Arkansas. Mary Jane also went missing and presumed dead after a year of investigation. Although authorities suspected foul play, no clues, suspects, or her body turned up, causing the case to go cold.Seventeen years later, Mary Jane appeared as an apparition to nine-year-old Stormy Taylor, where she lived in Texas. As Mary Jane gave Stormy clues about her disappearance and death, Stormy tried to convince her parents that her visions were real. To get the notion out of her head, Stormy's parents made some inquiries from the information Stormy revealed to them, and discovered information about a missing girl named Mary Jane. Eventually, the police reopened the cold case and investigated the disappearance of Mary Jane. Mary Jane revealed in one of Stormy's visions that she is Stormy's sister. Stormy, related to Mary Jane, how was that even possible? Her name was Elizabeth, and she died in 1950 from drowning in the creek behind her house. Eventually, Stormy, working with the FBI, discovered the identification of Mary Jane's killer and led the police and the FBI to her body. Through Stormy's visions, the police were then able to capture Mary Jane's killer. In another vision, Mary Janes told Stormy that she would have a sister. Stormy knew her mother would have another child and insisted she is named Mary Elizabeth. After the birth of Mary Elizabeth, Stormy ceased having further visions of Mary Jane.

143,95 kr. Fractured and Other Fairy Tales is a unique collection of sixteen fairy tales-some "fractured" classics, and some original stories-that offer new ways to understand familiar characters. William Thompson presents a series of often funny and sometimes dark tales that twist and shape traditional tales into something fresh and new. Whether it's Goldilocks meeting the three pigs, Red Riding Hood learning new ways to outwit the wolf, or Gretel starting up her own franchise, these stories are told in unexpected and captivating ways. There are not-so-familiar characters as well, such as the sly Mr. Fox with an appetite for geese, the seven ravens who need their enterprising young sister to save them from their father's curse, and a brave and clever girl who leaves home to see the world-and ends up saving a kingdom. Inspired by such writers as Thomas Wharton, Robert Paul Weston, and Jane Yolen, this collection reimagines many beloved fairy tales and provides new yarns that carry on a rich storytelling tradition.

This is a classic memoir, literally, from birth (as the premature author writes, "I was very young when I was born"), through a dual-career as a naval officer and monument-developer, and 66 (and counting) years of marriage to his personal "Sweetheart of Sigma Chi." Rear Admiral Thompson has stories to tell, of interest to all readers interested in the profession of public affairs (military and civilian) and in a behind-the-scenes look at the U. S. Navy from the middle to the end of the 20th century.

208,95 kr. This is one of my favorite books of poetry I have ever written I've been writing poetry ever since I was 10 years old this style of poetry tells stories of everyday life and all that we go through and who we really are only if we wake up and see the true power is in us. Life and death are in the power of the tongue and man will not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. So ask yourself who speaks for you when you talk.
