""The Grave: A Poem Illustrated by Twelve Etchings"" is a work of poetry by the renowned English poet and artist William Blake. Published in 1808, the book features twelve etchings by Blake that accompany the text, each one depicting a different aspect of death and the afterlife. The poem itself is a meditation on mortality, exploring themes of human frailty, the passage of time, and the inevitability of death. Blake's illustrations are highly symbolic and often surreal, featuring figures such as angels, demons, and skeletons. The combination of Blake's vivid imagery and his powerful, evocative language make ""The Grave"" a haunting and thought-provoking work that continues to captivate readers today.1808. The poem by William Blake, together with stunning etchings based on Blake's original hand-painted illustrations, and Blake's descriptions of the designs: By the arrangement here made, the regular progression of Man, from his first descent into the Vale of Death, to his last admission into Life eternal, is exhibited. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. "Innocence" and "Experience" are definitions of consciousness that rethink Milton's existential-mythic states of "Paradise" and the "Fall." Blake's categories are modes of perception that tend to coordinate with a chronology that would become standard in Romanticism: childhood is a state of protected innocence rather than original sin, but not immune to the fallen world and its institutions. This world sometimes impinges on childhood itself, and in any event becomes known through "experience," a state of being marked by the loss of childhood vitality, by fear and inhibition, by social and political corruption, and by the manifold oppression of Church, State, and the ruling classes.

Illustrations of The Book of Job by William Blake. Illustrations of the Book of Job Invented and Engraved by William Blake. William Blake's Illustrations of the Book of Job primarily refers to a series of twenty-two engraved prints (published 1826) by Blake illustrating the biblical Book of Job. It also refers to two earlier sets of watercolours by Blake on the same subject (1806 and 1821). The engraved Illustrations are considered to be Blake's greatest masterpieces in the medium of engraving, and were also a rare commercial and critical success for Blake. The Book of Job was an important influence upon Blake's writings and art; Blake apparently identified with Job, as he spent his lifetime unrecognized and impoverished. Harold Bloom has interpreted Blake's most famous lyric, The Tyger, as a revision of God's rhetorical questions in the Book of Job concerning Behemoth and Leviathan. Blake also depicted the story of Job throughout his career as an artist. The song of Enion in Night the Second of The Four Zoas also demonstrates that Blake identified with Job.

Living at a time of great innovation and industrial change in 18th century England, William Blake was not just a poet - he was a painter, an engraver, a mystic and even a proponent of the idea that marriage is a type of slavery for women. Many people, regarding the puzzlingly simple verse that Blake penned, consider his poetry to be firmly entrenched in the children's literature genre, but a closer examination of his simplest lines reveal much that is lurking beneath the surface. The Poems of William Blake introduces readers to a man who was deeply influenced by his church's literature, while also actively attempting to dismantle its power.

Songs of Innocence and of Experience is an illustrated collection of poems by William Blake. It appeared in two phases. A few first copies were printed and illuminated by William Blake himself in 1789; five years later he bound these poems with a set of new poems in a volume titled Songs of Innocence and of Experience Shewing the Two Contrary States of the Human Soul. William Blake was also a painter before the songs of innocence and experience and made paintings such as Oberon, Titania, and Puck dancing with fairies. "Innocence" and "Experience" are definitions of consciousness that rethink Milton's existential-mythic states of "Paradise" and "Fall". Blake's categorizes our modes of perception that tend to coordinate with a chronology that would become standard in Romanticism: childhood is a state of protected innocence rather than original sin, but not immune to the fallen world and its institutions.

Piping down the valleys wild, Piping songs of pleasant glee, On a cloud I saw a child, And he laughing said to me: 'Pipe a song about a Lamb!' So I piped with merry cheer. 'Piper, pipe that song again.' So I piped: he wept to hear. 'Drop thy pipe, thy happy pipe; Sing thy songs of happy cheer!' So I sung the same again, While he wept with joy to hear.

The stark simplicity of poems such as The Chimney Sweeper and The Little Black Boy display Blake's acute sensibility to the realities of poverty and exploitation that accompanied the "Dark Satanic Mills" of the Industrial Revolution.CONTENTSSONGS OF INNOCENCEIntroductionThe ShepherdThe Echoing GreenThe LambThe Little Black BoyThe BlossomThe Chimney-SweeperThe Little Boy LostThe Little Boy FoundLaughing SongA Cradle SongThe Divine ImageHoly ThursdayNightSpringNurse's SongInfant JoyA DreamOn Another's Sorrow SONGS OF EXPERIENCEIntroductionEarth's AnswerThe Clod and the PebbleHoly ThursdayThe Little Girl LostThe Little Girl FoundThe Chimney-SweeperNurse's SongThe Sick RoseThe FlyThe AngelThe TigerMy Pretty Rose TreeAh, SunflowerThe LilyThe Garden of LoveThe Little VagabondLondonThe Human AbstractInfant SorrowA Poison TreeA Little Boy LostA Little Girl LostA Divine ImageA Cradle SongThe SchoolboyTo TirzahThe Voice of the Ancient Bard
