213,95 kr. A luxurious silkbound, gold-embossed edition of The Karma Sutra with full-color illustrations, presented in a decorative slipcase. The Kama Sutra is the world-famous text on lovemaking and fulfilment in matters of the heart. Originally compiled in the 3rd century AD by Vatsyayana, a celibate monk, it is a window on the social practices and sexual habits of an ancient world. In the 19th century it gained a new lease of life when translated into English by noted linguist Sir Richard Burton, who was determined to bring its perceptive ideas to a Western audience. The Kama Sutra would have presented a refreshing if shocking alternative to the stodgy marriage advice manuals of the Victorian age. Its basic tenet - that in order for marriages to be happy the participants should be well-versed in the arts of pleasure, both carnal and of the mind - still holds true. And, in spite of a risqué reputation, it is an illuminating, candid, common-sense guide to living a satisfying life. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Arcturus Silkbound Classics series brings together deluxe gift editions of literary classics, presented with luxurious silk binding, striking embossed cover designs and full-color illustrations.

233,95 kr. The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian Hindu text widely considered to be the standard work on human sexual behavior in Sanskrit literature written by Vatsyayana. A portion of the work consists of practical advice on sexual intercourse. It is largely in prose, with many inserted anustubh poetry verses. Kama which is one of the four goals of Hindu life, means desire including sexual desire the latter being the subject of the textbook, and literally means a thread or line that holds things together, and more metaphorically refers to an aphorism (or line, rule, formula), or a collection of such aphorisms in the form of a manual. Contrary to popular perception, especially in the western world, Kama sutra is not exclusively a sex manual; it presents itself as a guide to a virtuous and gracious living that discusses the nature of love, family life and other aspects pertaining to pleasure oriented faculties of human life.

One of the best English translations of this ancient Indian treatise on politics, social mores, love, and intimacy are the Kama Sutra, which Mallanaga Vatsyayana wrote in the second century CE. Its clean presentation raised the bar for Sanskrit translation. The Kama Sutra is a unique combination of sexology, society, psychology. It has been hailed as a great work of Indian literature for more than 1,700 years and has served as a window for the West into the mysticism and culture of the East. The Kama Sutra, a prehistoric Indian literature, is regarded as the most important Sanskrit study of human sexuality. The Kamasutra: A Guide to the Ancient Art of sexuality, Eroticism, and Emotional Fulfillment in Life
208,95 kr. The Kama Sutra The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian Sanskrit text on sexuality, eroticism and emotional fulfillment in life. Attributed to Vātsyāyana, the Kama Sutra is neither exclusively nor predominantly a sex manual on sex positions, but written as a guide to the "art-of-living" well, the nature of love, finding a life partner, maintaining one's love life, and other aspects pertaining to pleasure-oriented faculties of human life.Kamasutra is the oldest surviving Hindu text on erotic love. It is a sutra-genre text with terse aphoristic verses that have survived into the modern era with different bhasya (exposition and commentaries). The text is a mix of prose and anustubh-meter poetry verses. The text acknowledges the Hindu concept of Purusharthas, and lists desire, sexuality, and emotional fulfillment as one of the proper goals of life. Its chapters discuss methods for courtship, training in the arts to be socially engaging, finding a partner, flirting, maintaining power in a married life, when and how to commit adultery, sexual positions, and other topics. The majority of the book is about the philosophy and theory of love, what triggers desire, what sustains it, and how and when it is good or bad.The text is one of many Indian texts on Kama Shastra. It is a much-translated work in Indian and non-Indian languages. The Kamasutra has influenced many secondary texts that followed after the 4th-century CE, as well as the Indian arts as exemplified by the pervasive presence Kama-related reliefs and sculpture in old Hindu temples. Of these, the Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh is a UNESCO world heritage site. Among the surviving temples in north India, one in Rajasthan sculpts all the major chapters and sexual positions to illustrate the Kamasutra. According to Wendy Doniger, the Kamasutra became "one of the most pirated books in English language" soon after it was published in 1883 by Richard Burton. This first European edition by Burton does not faithfully reflect much in the Kamasutra because he revised the collaborative translation by Bhagavanlal Indrajit and Shivaram Parashuram Bhide with Forster Arbuthnot to suit 19th-century Victorian tastes.

This definitive volume is the first modern translation of Vatsyayana's Kama Sutra to include two essential commentaries: the Jayamangala of Yashodhara and the modern Hindi commentary by Devadatta Shastri. Alain Danilou spent four years comparing versions of the Kama Sutra in Sanskrit, Hindi, Bengali, and English, drawing on his intimate experience of India, to preserve the full explicitness of the original. I wanted to demystify India, he writes, to show that a period of great civilization, of high culture, is forcibly a period of great liberty.

123,95 kr. Written by the Indian philosopher Vatsyayana sometime between the 4th century B.C. and the 1st century A.D., "The Kama Sutra" is perhaps the world's most famous book ever written on love and sexual desire. "Kama" is one of the four Hindu goals of human life and is translated as love, including sexual desire and romantic love. "Sutra" in this context means aphorisms, or rules and lessons, on the subject of love. "The Kama Sutra" has become synonymous with its instructions on sexual positions, but this compromises only a small portion of the work and it is much more than an erotic guide to lovemaking. Instead, it is intended as a manual for not only love and intimacy, but also a treatise on the politics and customs of marriages and family life. While the treatise values sensual delight and the pursuit of physical pleasure, it also promotes honor, virtue, and responsibility. This masterpiece of Sanskrit literature provides a fascinating glimpse into an ancient culture and its traditions and values, such as how one chooses a mate, how husbands and wives should comport themselves, and which romantic relationships are healthy and which are destructive. Presented here is the classic translation of Sir Richard Burton printed on premium acid-free paper.

16,95 kr. Judging by the way in which the `Kama Sutra‘ is referenced in movies and TV shows, you would think that it is merely an ancient manual on sex positions. But that is not entirely correct. For while is does guide the reader to a better sex life, it also offers a fascinating insight into the sexuality of middle-ages' India across all castes. `Kama Sutra‘ provides advice on how to trigger and sustain desire, how to maintain power in a married life and even on how best to cheat on your spouse! At times it reads like Emily Post‘s book of etiquette but for subjects such as scratching, kissing and biting. Anyone with even the slightest curiosity for anthropology and sexology will find it an interesting and invigorating read.LUST Classics is a collection of erotic literary classics.
