Wild in the Strike Zone is Tim Peeler's third book of baseball-related poems. The topics featured range from well-known players like Mickey Mantle, Pedro Martinez, and Randy Johnson to the lesser known colorful heroes of the depression era outlaw Carolina League such as Sing-Sing Prison grad, Edwin "Alabama" Pitts and Canadian-born slugger, Vince Barton. Wild is also a celebration of Peeler's "baseball childhood," and an exploration of his relationship with his minister-coach father and a reflection on his love for baseball and its connection to the American experience.

The fifty-eight year Easter Monday baseball rivalry between North Carolina State University and Wake Forest University had a traditional fraternity celebration known as the PIKA Ball, held on the NC State campus on Monday evening. Told from the view point of sports journalists, players, fans, and PIKA members, this reveals the excitement and developing strategies as the contest traverses several baseball eras.

This is Tim Peeler's second book of poems from baseball. Starting with time-honoured themes - fathers and sons, baseball and time, memory and the nation and team and player and loyalty - he adapts the universal to the local and personal, showing baseball is a powerful tool for mining our history.
