Bernhard Gomard som formand moderniserede Voldgiftsinstituttet sine regler om voldgift i 2004. Reglerne kom på internationalt niveau og er siden med passende mellemrum blevet ajourført for at følge med den internationale udvikling. En ny revision forventes i løbet af 2012. I 2007 fik Voldgiftsinstituttet regler om »fast track« og om mediation. Mens »fast track« ikke er særlig brugt, bliver reglerne om mediation brugt i stigende omfang og med succes.Antallet af sager ved Voldgiftsinstituttet har været stødt stigende. I 2010 blev der anlagt 165 nye sager heraf var 1/3 internationale sager. Voldgiftsinstituttet har med succes arbejdet på at samle voldgift og anden tvisteløsning i et selvstændigt og af alle partsinteresser uafhængigt internationalt institut.
