This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature.In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards:1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions.2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work.We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. In Antigone, he reveals the fate that befalls the children of Oedipus. Polynices, son of Oedipus, has led a rebellious army against his brother, Eteocles, ruler of Thebes. Both have died in single combat. When Creon, their uncle, assumes rule, he commands that the body of the rebel Polynices be left unburied and unmourned, and warns that anyone who tampers with his decree will be put to death. Antigone, sister of Polynices, defies Creon's order and buries her brother, claiming that she honors first the laws of the gods. Enraged, Creon condemns her to be sealed in a cave and left to die. How the gods take their revenge on Creon provides the gripping denouement to this compelling tragedy, which remains today one of the most frequently performed of classical Greek dramas. Kreon, the king of Thebes, has decreed that his nephew, the rebel soldier Polynices, will lie where he died in battle, as food for the birds and dogs. But Polynices' sister Antigone gives him a proper burial, even knowing that Kreon's penalty is death by stoning. Kreon's son Hamon, who is engaged in marriage to Antigone, pleads for her life, but is rebuffed by his father, and Hamon renounces him. The fortune-teller Tiresias warns Kreon that his son will die by the end of the day - dead for the dead - and the Chorus persuades the shaken Kreon to relent and save Antigone. But it is too late. Both Antigone and Hamon have killed themselves.

In this famous work from the origins of Greek thought, the hero Oedipus is sent to his death bed as an infant when an oracle predicts that he will kill his kingly father, and marry his mother. Being unable to kill him, the father passes him off to a shepherd who adopts him to another royal family. Believing this new family to be his true family, Oedipus now receives the same oracle as his father and believes he will perform this act on his adopted patron. Fleeing he comes across his real father, kills him and marries his grieving widow. The story that follows is one of the discovery of the truth and the terrible price that it demands.

Oedipus was the mythical Greek king of Thebes. A tragic hero in Greek mythology, Oedipus accidentally fulfilled a prophecy that he would end up killing his father and marrying his mother, thereby bringing disaster to his city and family.The story of Oedipus is the subject of Sophocles's tragedy Oedipus, King of Thebes, which was followed by Oedipus at Colonus and then Antigone. Together, these plays make up Sophocles's three Theban plays. Oedipus represents two enduring themes of Greek myth and drama: the flawed nature of humanity and an individual's role in the course of destiny in a harsh universe.
