Welcome to the third edition of the Sachet Mixte Women's Journal, an eclectic collection of artists from around the world working in a variety of styles. We are pleased that the Women's journal is gathering the same kind of following as Sachet Mixte Men. Here at Sachet Mixte we are developing our work to include more artist monographs (we are working on Number 10 at present and we would like to begin to feature female artists) and this year's special series of art themed books, the first of which will be released in February about Pastel Artists.

Why Sachet Mixte Women you may ask? Well since late in 2012 we have been producing the Sachet Mixte Arts Journal which was developed to support male artists, many of whom struggle with getting their work out there and with issues of confidence in their art. Now that Sachet Mixte has blossomed and is in fact in its Sixth Edition, it seemed a great time to focus on and celebrate female artists, to help them to showcase their art and boost sales of their works. As Sachet Mixte is bi-monthly we aim to produce Sachet Mixte Women at the same frequency only in between each Sachet Mixte Journal publication. As with Sachet Mixte the format is to showcase 21 artists from around the world although by chance this first edition has a predominance of UK artists. However, we do have representation from Hungary, Japan, France, Brazil, USA, India and Germany. We will aim to have many other countries represented in future issues. We have a small range of artistic styles in this the First Edition of Sachet Mixte Women: photographers, painters, textile designers and jewellery designers and we hope in future editions to broaden this mix. Having said that, the subject matter is even more diverse as you will see here and this makes for an exciting and thought provoking First Edition. Who would have thought, back in December 2012, that I would be currently preparing our tenth edition of this international arts journal.? We are stunned by it's popularity with over 650 supporters on Facebook and a regular, if small, band of people who buy the journal. Please spread the word so that the journal and the wonderful artists featured can get more exposure. The addition of Sachet Mixte Women journal has greatly helped with spreading the popularity of our community alongside the artist residencies, artist monographs and the new themed arts books (the first one on Pastel artists will be out in the Spring. This edition is once more a mixed bag with artists from the USA, UK, Ireland, Holland, France, Canada, Singapore, Georgia, Poland and Kurdistan. We have painters, models, comic artists and a digital artist. I want to thank everyone involved for their great artistic skills and their commitment to supporting the Sachet Mixte Community.

'Life Goes On' is a photographic book which commemorates the centenary of The First World War. It focusses on the ordinary moments experienced by all the men, women and children, both on the Home Front and on the Front line but not engaged in combat. The book portrays, through photographs and contemporary illustrations, the lives of these unseen families and individuals. It shows the joys, the hardships, the stoicism, the grief, the celebrations and the precious moments of peace, all experienced by those ordinary people whose lives continued despite the horrors of the trenches in Europe. They are the ones whose 'lives went on' and, through these photographs, we are able to know their stories.

Following the launch and success of Sachet Mixte Women last month, which will be a regular publication from now on, we have decided to rename the Men's version as Sachet Mixte Men just to mark the difference more clearly. Welcome therefore to this the Sachet Mixte Men Edition Seven, which has as usual a great melange of artistic talent from around the world, places as diverse as Norway, Ukraine, America, France, Australia, Cuba, Canada, South Africa, Ireland, Germany and the UK. As ever the styles of artistic expression are varied also. Editions 8 & 9 are now full but we are seeking submissions for 2015. The 75th Anniversary of the Dutch Resistance's bombing of the Amsterdam Population Registry is to be celebrated in 2018. This play focusses on this event and upon the valiant leadership of Willem Arondéus, an accolade long denied this man due to his homosexuality. Now is the time to re-establish the truth as spoken of at the moment of his execution " Let it be known that homosexuals are not cowards"

Pastel - an enduring medium. What is it about pastel that has captivated, engaged and inspired countless artists through the ages? Since the Renaissance, pastel has become renowned as a medium of endurance, as it does not contain the liquid binding agent that causes other media like oil, acrylic and watercolour to crack, change colour or consistency with age. As it's a dry medium, it has to be protected either by the use of spray fixative, or, ideally put behind glass in a frame. As pastels have an unusually high pigment content they also keep their jewel like brilliance over the centuries, provided they are kept out of direct sunlight. Pastels are made from pigment, chalk, gum Arabic and distilled water, mixed into a paste which is rolled into sticks then left to dry naturally. Once the liquid content has evaporated, they are ready to use. There are various densities of pastel, varying greatly from brand to brand but usually the most highly pigmented will give the softest butter-like consistency that many artists love to work with. Pastels were first used in the 16th century and became increasingly popular during the 18th and 19th centuries, with artists such as Degas, Renoir, Lautrec and Whistler, to name but a few, creating wonderfully enduring drawings and paintings in pastel. It was however, Venetian artist Rosalba Carriera, who had pastels made for her from pure pigment - sometimes even experimenting with pigments mixed with crushed sea shells! She produced amazingly life-like portraits in pastel and became the 'go-to' artist to have one's portrait painted by. She certainly helped bring pastel to the forefront as a new medium for the artists of Europe. At present, pastel appears to be enjoying a renaissance and a resurgence in popularity with many pastel societies springing up worldwide. I hope this book and it's beautiful paintings will inspire the reader to explore this wonderfully expressive medium.

'Taking the Medicine' is a play devoted to issues on a micro and macro level concerning corruption and multi-national corporations,controlling cartels and globalization. The action is centred on a small management committee of a mental health charity, made up from a cross section of British society: an ex-army man, a bohemian upper middle class woman, an older retired businessman, two service users and two new recruits, young men each with a hidden agenda. Focussing on three separate committee meetings, the lives and characters of the committee members are revealed whilst wider issues are brought into the spotlight.....

A collection of evocative black-and-white pictures of ruined buildings in France. These ruins include churches, town houses, industrial buildings, former civic structures and castles. The text explores their history, the factors behind their ruined state and the relationship between humans and ruins.

A story of one man's experiences, from the perspective of two ages he has lived through, aged 28 and 83.
