In Tapestry of Grief, Ruth Ann Allaire, portrays the devastating effects of grief on the psyche. All of us have experienced loss at some level. The response to this loss changes from person to person but on all there are effects. In the face of grief many are speechless, hence the phrase "There are no words." This volume attempts to relate the experience of grief in words which while not explaining may at least be descriptive of this experience. As time goes on the bitter, hot pain of first loss becomes shaded with continued observation of the psyche. A Year Later and Serenity are examples of a changing perspective. Lament examines the broader effects of loss and grief on a population of those involved in whaling. Grief touches us all. May you find within these poems a shared experience with your own grief. http: //www.aginggracefullyandgratefully.com

We, that is you and me, are surrounded by and live with relationships. We have relationships with people-- parents, children, lovers, spouses, friends, co-workers and even people we meet casually on the highway. Some even have relationships with things, for example, food, sugar, cigarettes. In Gallows, one of the poems in this book, the relationship between a man and alcohol is described. A peek into the various aspects of relationships is what this small volume is about. What fosters relationships? What hurts them? What is the nature of the exchange between two people? All of us have known another. Sometimes this occurs with great joy and sometimes with great sadness. People with all of their complex personalities bring to each relationship different aspects of their being. The other in the relationship offers back an equally complex persona. Such interactions occur between people of all ages and places. The Rooms To Rent, which are portraits of relationships, occur whether in Oman as in the cover of the book or next door. When Rooms To Rent In The Relationship Hotels was being prepared for publication, I realized that there were still many types of relationships that were not included. Some new aspects of relationships are included in More Rooms to Rent. How do people come together? What do they bring with themselves into a new relationship? What happens when people part? What does one person seek in another? As times change do people view relationships differently? In When I Met You, Love, the nature of mental illness, betrayal and forgiveness is examined. Cassandria opens up certain aspects of sexual relations. Another aspect examined is the effect of time, both on relationships that last and also on ones that don't. What do we carry away with us from each and every relationship? And last, we jokingly have a study on the word last.

Alcohol ruins many lives. Not just the addicts but also the many whose lives are intertwined with the alcoholic, This small book examines the problem from the eyes and heart of those who witness the destruction and despair caused by this addiction. Of course, there are many other addictions with equally devastating consequences but this study is primarily focused on alcohol. Many alcoholics have extraordinary talents and wonderful aspects to their personalities. Those associated stay in relationships with the addict for many reasons. One is hope. Hope that things will change, that by some miracle or program or treatment, the alcoholic will turn around and become what is so called "normal". Some of these poems include the anger and hostility of the associate and some examine the interactions between them. Gallows takes a more distanced view. The frustration, bitterness and even hatred are aspects of this dynamic. The alcoholic often cries out for help but then is unable to follow through with the needed steps. However, for whatever small percentage of alcoholics make manifest their change for the better, kudos from this author.

Even More Rooms To Rent expands the horizons of this series of examinations of the different aspects of relationships. As we age and expand our horizons, the interior of our beings seeks new interactions with others, things, life and even death. The effect of lies is discussed in A Tankard of Doubt. Tariqua and Shari'a looks at different religious philosophies within the same faith. What do we see when meeting a prostitute? Poor Mountain, a lyrical ballad, displays a relationship with the earth, its Environment and a person who is a seeker. As we live we discover new, different and sometimes both joyful and/or painful relationships. May there always be more Rooms for you to rent as you examine your own life.

Usually, we have family portraits, snapshots, videos, movies and other pictorial displays of our relations. This book attempts to portray our family (near and dear, close and far) in words. There are also people who fit into our family not necessarily by blood but by heart, by shared experiences, by marriages and by lifetime associations. Sometimes our closest friends become "family". In this small volume, the author has attempted to bring a visual picture to the reader, sometimes by physical features and sometimes by the emotional bonds. Mitakuye Oyasin

Love may be the most misunderstood word in the English language. That in concept it is a conundrum is just as equally misunderstood. Who do we love? And then the questions, who, why, when, how? Did I love you when we married? Then why are we divorced now? Do I love my country? Or hot fudge sundaes? Are there degrees of love. Remember the Greeks had philia, brotherly love, eros, erotic love and agape, love in a general and complete sense. In today's world we often end conversations with "love ya". Does it have true meaning? This book examines the many aspects of love. Think of how you love and answer the questions, why, when and how.

The Nature of Nature provides a landscape for Ruth Ann to paint word pictures from a variety of observations on the natural world and on life from a human perspective. The seasons are looked at from different angles. Obfuscation describes a squid's antics, while Innocents considers the longevity of daffodils. Those who observe nature are always wondering about the great green world, how it came to be, how it is changing and what lessons we might derive from our observations. Human nature is also described in Mediocrity and Tangible And most importantly as the terrible reality of war in Understanding For the many in life who observe nature this is perhaps a reflection on their findings.

Most of us question certain aspects of life. What is my purpose? Why was I born? Why has God forsaken me? These questions may last a lifetime but usually for only the time that the question is presenting itself. A Quest is most often a much longer endeavor. The original question of "whence" may initiate the process but other quests present along the way? For me some questions (and/or quests) have been life-long . Is it better to be just or merciful? How does one love God? What is faith? Quests do not have to be religious. They might include cures for a certain disease, reducing smog in cities, reducing wastefulness in cities. Whatever the quest, the questor seeks answers both for "whither", where does one start. And perhaps last of all "why". Why did I spend my life searching for whatever, wherever the quest led us. Sometimes one quest leads to another . The person who is a questor often remains so. With just a different quest. This book tries to paint in words the basic quests that I have embarked upon. I wish I could give you answers but not so, only a description of the quest and its effects.

Dragonflies and damsel flies are, and seem to have always been, objects of curiosity. Not only are they beautiful, colorful and fascinating, they appear in many places in the world. In many civilizations people see them as symbols of death, near death, survival, transformation, change and beauty. Whether one studies them scientifically or as a novice captured by their beauty, fragility, velocity or ferocity, they provide an endless area for interest and study. This series of haiku is intended to mention a few of their characteristics and merely look at the many, many ways to depict their life styles . Trying to capture a dragonfly has intrigued many a child and observing the behavior of these beautiful insects has occupied many hours of adult time. Four words you might not be familiar with: Odonata, the order in the Class Insecta to which dragon and damsel flies belong. Anisoptera, the suborder to which the dragonflies belong and ovipositor the organ in females which lays the eggs. Ommatidia means compound eye. Otherwise the vocabulary should be familiar

This volume adds dimensions to Rooms To Rent In The Relationship Hotels and More Rooms To Rent. There will always be more ways to look at relationships. In Still More Rooms To Rent we continue to examine the different ways that people relate to other people and even things. Affluence looks at such a relationship between a man and nicotine as well as societal differences. In Mayflower there is a look at the relationship between a plant and the earth. Judas Iscariot, My Love treats the subject of betrayal. The problems of intercultural relationships are examined in There It Is. As long as people are surrounded and interact with people and things there will always be still more rooms to rent in the relationship hotels and a chance for thinking people to look inside those rooms and describe what they see. To a certain extent time changes perspectives on relationships. Compare the voice in When We Were Young or Hormones to the one in The Music Professor or Late Summer Love.

Ruth Ann Allaire, deftly captures the season's capacity to evoke emotions from despair to hope. Winter is a lot more than just snow and cold temperatures. It's also a time to reflect the passage of time. In this wonderful collection of poems, Allaire laments missed opportunities and yearns for connection. But there is also humor. Readers will surely find a comparison to a squabble among birds with that of their human counterparts to strike an amusing chord. Winter in a River Beach Town, is a terrific anthology any poetry fan would enjoy adding to their collection. -Cathy Carter, Delaware Public Media and self-proclaimed expert arbiter of stuff you should know aboutRuth Ann Allaire's portrayal of the beauty fall brings gently guides the reader into the harsh realities of winter, capturing the essence of introspection that only wintertime can bring. Her charming depiction of nature evokes a sense of seeing peace and tranquility with an undercurrent of feeling, that is quite the opposite. She possesses a unique way of tugging at our heartstrings; sharing with time felt hunger, life's lessons with such clarity that can only strengthen one's resolve. A must read, in my humble opinion. -Teresa Mohme, author of Nature Speaks Volume To Those Who... and A daughter's Reflection on the Suicide of Her FatherRuth Ann Allaire's Winter in a River Beach Town illuminates the seasons of the year in a voice ripe with wisdom and reveals a life spent in keen observation and persistent hope. Using fresh images of nature, she shares a perspective of realism about human relationships in spare poems which speak volumes to her readers. The sound and rhythmic cadence of Time and Testament, just for example, provide music for a hypnotic dance in celebration of the eternal resilience of our flawed humanity. She sets in sharp relief our breath-taking, ever-changing world with the space separating us from the people we love. This is a lovely, haunting first book of poems. -Elizabeth W. Seaver, poet and artist at Water Street Studio
