'When in the city of the ancient ones, those from the endless darkness shall step through the flaming gate, HE shall come, from the shadows of the Dragons Wing, bearing the Eye and Horn of the Dragon. The land will sing with his passing and they will know fear that oppose him, for he is the Lord of the skies and protector of the Realm.' The Child's Prophecy. T.E. 2147 The land of Kil'Tar has a long and bloody history of war between the Kay'taari and the Ashar'an. Aided by Dragonkind, the Kay'taari have protected the world against the Ashar'an and their demonic followers for many centuries. With demonkind banished to the Voids, and the Ashar'an all but destroyed, Kil'Tar has enjoyed an era of peace. However, the seals binding the portals to the voids are failing, and the Ashar'an are abroad once again. Both the Kay'taari and Dragonkind are nowhere to be found on Kil'Tar. Can Valdieron, a young man raised in the small village of Shadowvale, fulfill his destiny and rid the lands of this menace once and for all, or will he falter, and condemn Kil'Tar to demonic destruction? "Demon Gates is a finely crafted tale of sufficient quality to place right alongside those of it's peers...." SFBook.com "The fighting scenes are written in a way that reminds me of R. A. Salvatore with the detail and complexity of the melee battles...." IndieBookBlog

It is my platform. If it could be your story, vote for me. It would be like voting for yourself. Feels good, doesn't it?" So begins the Book-of-the-Month-Club novelist and award winning short story author Robert Day in his new book Robert Day for President, an Embellished Campaign Autobiography. His book is a memoir about how he "became the political person he is today" growing up with a Republican father, a Democratic mother, and a Polish Socialist grandmother. What "feels good" about Day's book are the scenes and the characters. We see him at a 1960s rally protesting his university's off-campus housing policy, "a policy that discriminates against African Americans (who were not yet African Americans in Kansas, nor even Blacks, but Negroes or Colored. Among other nouns.)" Then later, his presence at the first large Tea Party rally in Washington, D. C. ("Harm was in the air: you could see it.") Along the way we meet Jeb Bush, William Kristol, Peggy Noonan, Anne Coulter, Fox News, Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Everett Dirksen, Hillary Clinton and Day's maternal Grandmother, Sallie Makielski-herself the author of The Makielski Proclamations: Machines that Run on Their Own Can Run You Over. Stand Good Brooms on Their Handles. Wires Connected to the House Take Money Out of the House. First, Take Care of Yourself so You Can Care for Others when They Need you, and so No One Need Take Care of You. It is to Sallie Makielski that Day's book is dedicated.

- Epistolary Fiction Before Richardson
488,95 kr. Told in Letters is a study of the English novel before it came of age with Richardson's Pamela. The first book to trace the history and methods of using letters to tell a story, it draws on more than 200 little-known works written before Pamela. Many of these were designed for a public that had little concern with art. Here we see the origins of the psychological novel in its most primitive form. We also discover the achievements of early letter fiction such as the "familiar letter" and the widely imitated innovations of French fiction. In addition, Told in Letters portrays the Grub Street world that gave birth to popular literature, and describes the power that booksellers and popular taste had over these early novels. Finally, Richardson is reassessed in the light of his predecessors' writing, and we understand better the origins of a literary technique that did so much to revolutionize English fiction in the middle of the eighteenth century.

118,95 kr. In these rich and incisive essays, Robert Day reveals how his "learning" as a student defined his "teaching" at Washington College, the University of Kansas, the Iowa Writers Workshop and other colleges and universities. He learned because his best teachers included him into their intellectual lives, and it seemed natural for him to do the same for his students. The first part of this collection contains tributes to his teachers, and the second part tells how he followed their examples in his own teaching.

123,95 kr. Robert Day has invented a new form, the Chance Encounters of a Literary Kind memoirs?brief, whimsical, sometimes touching, reminiscences about his brushes (often friendships) with literary greatness. He treats Shakespeare, William Stafford, Mavis Gallant, John Barth, Ray Carver, Walter Bernstein, and Michael de Montaigne. Some he met and knew in person; others he met in his mind. But the collision is sparkling in its reverent irreverence, airy, gossamer-thin, a playful and informal jeu d?esprit that takes itself not very seriously, yet with flashes of seriousness and wit.

183,95 kr. ~ From the PrefaceMy novel The Last Cattle Drive was first published by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1977. There were good reviews in the New York Times and in many other papers around the country. It was a Book-of-Month-Club selection. Secker and Warburg in London (George Orwell's publisher) brought out a fine edition to excellent reviews in the papers and on the BBC. Both the British and the US publishers issued second printings, and both later brought out paperback editions. As it happened, when the first edition came out, I was in New York to see Tim Seldes at Russell and Volkening, my agent in those days, and he took me for a ride up Fifth Avenue to see that Scribner's windows were filled with the hardcover editions. By now the novel has never been out of print, and these days it exists in a special anniversary edition published by the University of Kansas Press. It's as if the book has been my friend all these years, although long ago I stopped giving readings from it and explaining how with glee I ripped off Mark Twain and Vladimir Nabokov. There is more to say later about this, but the meantime, how come it has taken all these years until now for me to write a sequel?-Robert Day
