Whereas the poetry of the first book made no mention of his bipolar condition, many of the poems in Headstone deal with this difficult subject directly. Rick became convinced while writing the second book, that his bipolar experiences should be dealt with openly on the oft chance that his descriptions might be helpful to others so afflicted.
