    Dos inmortales poemas de la vida campesina por Virgilio, el Homero latino. Traducción, prólogos, estudios preliminares y notas de Emilio Gómez de Miguel y el célebre crítico literario Juan Bautista Bergua.Virgilio (70-19 a.C.), a veces llamado "el Homero latino" por su obra maestra La Eneida, escribíó dos poemas de la vida campesina, Las Bucólicas y Las Geórgicas. Gracias a su amistad con Octavio (que más tarde fue el primer imperador romano, Augusto) y la protección de Cayo Mecenas, Virgilio pudo dedicarse a su obra literaria y ser aceptado como el mejor poeta de su época.Las Bucólicas (o Églogas) son poemas pastoriles escritas en hexámetros dactílicos donde los protagonistas cantan lamentos y grandezas de la época. Aunque inspirado sin duda por Teócrito, Virgilio muestra puntos de vista muy propios. Idealiza a los campesinos y hace frecuentes alusiones a deidades y personajes contemporáneos.Las Geórgicas son cuatro poemas didácticos sobre el trabajo de los campos, donde el poeta expresa la necesidad incentivar a la población romana a promover el cultivo de las tierras muy abandonado desde que los campesinos dejaran las tierras en favor de la vida en la ciudad.
