Brunei and Tanzania - two countries in stark contrast. One oil-rich, with a tiny population and an extremely high standard of living; the other aid-dependent and desperately poor. Paul Woods describes his experience of teaching English and training teachers in the 1970's, moving from an expatriate life-style revolving around barbecues and banquets in Brunei, where colonial dependency was gradually giving way to Islamic fundamentalism, to a daily struggle for survival implementing Education for Self-Reliance in Nyerere's Tanzania, first at a militarised college in Tabora and later on running projects to rear pigs, breed rabbits and show James Bond films in Tukuyu.

This coloring book is a collection of drawings from my 2018 - 2019 sketchbook. I chose the best drawings from the sketchbook to assemble the most quality and fun possible for your coloring experience. At 19 years old this will be my first art product of many to come. The art in the book ranges from focused scenery to complete randomness (which I personally prefer to color). Each turn of the page will have you questioning what you'll see. A dragon? Watches? Cars? Humans? Who knows. That's up to you to find out.

Paul Woods spent 1972 as a VSO teacher of English at a government secondary school in Kaltungo, in north-east Nigeria. Based on letters he wrote, interspersed with flashbacks to the days of the early missionaries in Kaltungo and fast-forwarding to the present day, he describes the trials and tribulations of a volunteer teacher, including linguistic and cultural misunderstandings, a farcical public execution, tribal warfare at a school football match, supervising exams, catching cheats and preparing lesson plans retrospectively for a government inspection. Books ordered for the school library take forever to arrive. He also highlights the difficulties of life in a remote village, contending with no water and electricity, fighting off poisonous snakes, buying milk from nomadic Fulani tribespeople, and choosing between goat and dog meat in the local market. A grand tour of West Africa by motorbike takes him via the former territory of breakaway Biafria as far as Bolgatanga in northern Ghana.

Paul and Fanta met in Makeni in the north of Sierra Leone, fell in love and got married. Paul managed a project to improve the quality of English teaching in Sierra Leonean primary schools for the British Council, whilst Fanta over in neighbouring Guinea supervised the construction of their dream house by the sea. In the mid 90s, the house was seized by the wife of Guinean President Lansana Conte, who claimed she owned the place and installed Presidential Guards in it. By the time they got the house back several years later it had been completely trashed, so they sold it for what they could get and then took the President's wife to court a second time for damages. The story of how they struggled for many years to get justice is one of endurance and perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds.
