In the economy at large, remarkable improvements in IT price-performance over the last quarter-century have yielded greater productivity and better IT-based products and services at lower costs. In contrast, increased defense capabilities, despite their growing IT content, have meant increased costs.

The study of the Ricci flow on differentiable manifolds in general has led to great progress in the study of manifolds of any dimension. In particular manifolds of low dimension can be looked at in great depth and these ideas have recently led to a resolution of the Poincare conjecture. The concept of the normailized and is introduced as well as the unnormalized flow. The curvature tensor in dimension three is studied as well as the evolution of the curvature. It is seen that maximum principles play a vital role in this work.

The subject of manifolds is an exciting area of research in modern mathematics. This volume presents five chapters that discuss manifolds and some of their applications to other areas of study. It is designed to provide researchers further insight into what is current in the field and will hopefully spur further study.
