The aim of the present textbook was to review the importance of solid mechanics from the point of view of general definitions of fracture, fracture mechanics and the energy balance approach, the stress intensity approach, the concept of fatigue and propagation of cracks, and finally the important findings of this study. Chapter one constitutes general introduction to mechanics of solids and fracture mechanics. This chapter includes response models of solids, definition of fracture, failure of structures, creep rupture, and historical review. In chapter two fracture mechanics and the energy balance Approach were introduced and discussed thoroughly from the consideration of a brief introduction and compliance calibration. Chapters three discusses the stress intensity approach from the viewpoint of introduction, the effect of specimen geometry, the grain size and temperature. Chapter four discusses fatigue which includes a brief introduction to fatigue, S-N curves, effect of mean load, Miner¿s law for cumulative damage, and crack growth rates. The conclusions which is the last chapter summarizes the important points and findings which were reached in this textbook.

In the present textbook, it was found that symmetric laminates are stiffer than the anti ¿ symmetric one due to coupling between bending and stretching which decreases the buckling loads of symmetric laminates. The buckling load increases with increasing aspect ratio, and decreases with increase in modulus ratio. The buckling load will remain the same even when the lamination order is reversed. The buckling load increases with the mode number but at different rates depending on the type of end support. It is also observed that as the mode number increases, the plate needs additional support. The aim of the present textbook was to review the importance of studying biaxial buckling of composite laminated rectangular plates from the point of view of introduction and basic definitions, the formulation of mathematical modelling of rectangular laminates, the numerical method for predicting the buckling loads and shape modes of buckling of laminated rectangular plates, studying the effects of lamination scheme, material anisotropy, fiber orientations of layers, reversing lamination scheme, and boundary conditions for different buckling loads.

It is the gradual destruction of materials (usually a metal) by chemical and/or electrochemical reaction with their environment. Corrosion engineering is the field dedicated to controlling and preventing corrosion. In aqueous environments, metals may be exposed to not only uniform corrosion, but also to various types of local corrosion including pitting, crevice, intergranular, stress, and galvanic corrosion. In areas where corrosion is a concern, stainless steel products offer value and protection against these threats. Stainless¿ favorable chemical composition makes it resistant to many common corrosives while remaining significantly more affordable than specialty alloys such as titanium and Inconel® alloys. The book is suitable as a textbook for a first course on corrosion and bio fouling of metallic and nonmetallic structures. It can be used as a reference by engineers and scientists working in industry and academic institutions.

Master's Thesis from the year 2003 in the subject Engineering - Mechanical Engineering, grade: 5.0, Nile Valley University, course: BSc, language: English, abstract: The objective of this book is to present a complete and up to date treatment of rectangular laminated plates with uniform cross sections. Dynamic Relaxation (DR) method is presented for the geometrically linear and nonlinear laterally loaded, rectangular laminated plates. The analysis uses the Mindlin plate theory which accounts for transverse shear deformation. A computer program has been compiled. The convergence and accuracy of the DR solutions for elastic small and large deflection response are established by comparison with various exact and approximate solutions. New numerical results are generated for uniformly loaded square laminated plates which serve to quantify the effects of shear deformation, material anisotropy, fiber orientation, and coupling between bending and stretching. It was found that linear analysis seriously over-predicts deflections of plates. The shear deflection depends greatly on a number of factors such as length/ thickness ratio, degree of anisotropy and number of layers. It was also found that coupling between bending and stretching can increase or decrease the bending stiffness of a laminate depending on whether it is positive or negative.
