This book intends to introduce recent studies on Turkish linguistics to a wide scientific readership of graduate students and scholars maximizing interdisciplinary contributions to the literature. The primary aim is to familiarise readers with useful and applicable approaches of theoretical and applied linguistics focusing on Turkish. Since linguistics is an interdisciplinary field, students and scholars from various disciplines like interactional sociolinguistics, translation studies, education, foreign language teaching, linguistic anthropology, cultural studies, psychology might also be interested in the content. This project is mainly research based, therefore suitable as a source book rather than a course book; however, it offers a better potential for insertion into interdisciplinary graduate courses like "readings in linguistics" or seminar modules in various social sciences. The book is structured on the basis of the diversity in 21st-century linguistics, taking into consideration large thematic blocks including micro and macro approaches to linguistics, focusing on Turkish.

This book, which includes selected contemporary literary and cultural productions in English, focuses on textual, contextual and conceptual concerns. In this respect, the aim of this book is to provide a resource that will benefit all relevant segments of the field of literature in a variety of periods, genres and theories.

This book investigates applications of probability theory to random events from an economic standpoint and considers how economics can deal with uncertainty in today's world. As such the nature of chance and probability will be discussed with examples taken from the theoretical literature in probability and the history of economic thought, as well as real-life events.Chapters cover the nature of randomness and the element of chance, the concepts of both hidden costs and opportunity costs, the economic effect of human action, the randomness of economic events, random walk hypotheses and observable and unobservable phenomena. It situates the discussion in John Maynard Keynes' and Ronald Fisher's seminal works on probability, as well as introducing key tenets of probability theory and how these can be applied to economic events. The book considers the relationship between artificial intelligence and economic events, the role of big data, and international examples fromdifferent economic systems and how these can be evaluated. It also introduces a multidisciplinary exploration of other social sciences and how they deal with uncertainty, to assess the extent to which it is possible to apply probability theory to economic events which are by nature erratic and uncertain.This book will be of interest to researchers and students in economics, statistics, and those in the social sciences interested in questions of randomness and chance.

"The Night The Dark The Grasshopper and You" is Mircan Kaia's first book. It is perhaps as hard an endeavor to categorize the book she wrote as it is hard to categorize her music. The book can be called a novella. The author presents a century long life in a hundred or so pages. This is a story of a child bride who was not aware of the plots behind her marriage and forced to become a woman too early. She connects pieces together with short stories which are presented under different chapters. After a span of two weeks which she spent with her mother atop the mountain village she was born in, in a wooden house, picking off the story from her mother's bosom, the author goes on a journey in her mother's memory and becomes her voice to confess in her stead. A kind of return to the womb and an affirmation of all flaws. An attempt to look into another's pain, to see from her perspective, to become her voice, to interpret her feelings.A realistic point of view is embraced in this century long tale in which we can also find the tracks of a pagan living tradition that is undoubtedly present anywhere ruled by nature, and Mircan Kaia lets us feel through her writing the bitter sweetness also present in her music.At the last chapter "The Night The Dark, The Grasshopper and You", which is also the namesake of the book itself, we might find ourselves crying together with the author, but as always, Mircan Kaia elevates love and life in this last chapter.First published in Turkish in Turkey as paperback book, "The Night The Dark The Grasshopper and You" is available now for English readers.

Internal control systems operate at different levels of effectiveness in a business entity. Determining whether a particular internal control system is effective and/or is a judgement resulting from an assessment of whether the five components - control environment, risk assessment, control activities, information and communication and monitoring- are present and functioning. Effective controls provide reasonable assurance regarding the accomplishment of established objectives. There is no such thing as a perfect control system in a business structure. The cost of implementing and inserting a specific control should not exceed the expected benefit of the control. Internal controls should reduce the risks associated with undetected errors or irregularities, but designing and establishing effective internal controls is not always a simple task and con not always be accomplished though a short set of quick fixes.
