Neben Robert Schumanns gleichnamigem Opus 73 gehören die Fantasiestücke des dänischen Komponisten Niels Wilhelm Gade zum unverzichtbaren Repertoire aller Klarinettisten. Gade, der lange in Leipzig gelebt hatte und eng mit Schumann befreundet war, leistete 1864 mit diesem tiefromantischen "Schwesterwerk" einen wichtigen Beitrag, um die Klarinette als kammermusikalisches Soloinstrument zu etablieren. Die vier Stücke der Sammlung können durchaus einzeln aufgeführt werden und bieten sich ideal für den Unterricht an. Herausgeber und Klarinettist Nicolai Pfeffer zog neben der deutschen und dänischen Erstausgabe auch das Autograph in Kopenhagen zu Rate und konnte so etliche Unstimmigkeiten älterer Ausgaben beseitigen.
