Miklós Radnóti (1909-1944), whose work beautifully combines colloquial modernism with Virgilian classicism, is best known internationally as one of the great poets of the Holocaust: his final, harrowing poems were recovered from a notebook found on his body upon exhumation from a mass grave in 1946. But while he is certainly one of the key literary chroniclers of the Holocaust, he is also much more than that. All That Still Matters at All spans his entire output, from his carefree early love lyrics to the increasingly urgent poems written as the clouds of fascism and war descended upon Europe to the poems composed during forced labor and the death march that finally took his life. All of his work, however, was inspired by his wife, muse and literary executor, Fanni Gyarmati Radnóti, who enthusiastically endorsed these new translations by Ridland and Czipott prior to her death in 2014 at the age of 101.

Camp Notebook is a masterpiece in its own right, a crucial work of European verse. It is one of the greatest pieces of literature to emerge from the Holocaust, and probably the finest volume of poetry born from the horror of the Second World War.

THE AUTHOR of this book (1907?1944) was perhaps the greatest poet of the Holocaust, a Jewish Catholic convert who fell victim to a mass murder of Jews perpetrated by the regular Hungarian Army under stan-dard orders. The crime took place towards the end of the Second World War when the Allied victory was already obvious. Some of the poems were recovered from the grave. Today, the poems are treasured as some of the most flawless modern additions to their country?s rich poetic heritage. They have gone some way towards teaching tolerance to new generations in the treatment of their racial, religious and ethnic minorities. Unlike many others, Radn?ti had plenty of opportunities to escape forced labour and death at the hands of the Nazis. He was at the height of his literary powers when he chose to enter the storm, eyes open and notebook in hand, deliberately seeking to transform the horror into po-etry.

Contains the complete poems in Hungarian and in English translation of Hungary's great modern poet, Miklos Radnoti, murdered at the age of 35 during the Holocaust. His earliest poems, the six books published during his lifetime, and the poems published posthumously after World War II are included. There is a preface by Gy?z? Ferencz, one of Hungary's foremost experts on Radnoti's poems.
