- To Which Are Added, Sonnets (1811)
179,95 kr. ""The Beauties of Carlo-Maria Maggi, Paraphrased: To Which Are Added, Sonnets"" is a literary work by Mariana Starke, first published in 1811. The book is a collection of paraphrased poems by Carlo-Maria Maggi, an Italian poet from the 18th century. Starke has translated Maggi's poems into English, providing her own interpretation and style to the original works. In addition to the paraphrased poems, Starke has also included a selection of sonnets that she has written herself. The book is a testament to the beauty of Maggi's poetry and Starke's skill as a translator and poet in her own right. It is a must-read for lovers of Italian literature and poetry. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Mariana Starke (1762-1838) was an ideal travel guide: she lived and travelled in Italy for much of the 1790s and had a truly practical mind, predicting perfectly what a traveller might need to know about both the journey and the destination. Travels on the Continent, first published in 1820, was partly based on her earlier bestseller Travels in Italy (also reissued in this series) but featured completely updated information based on extensive research during the late 1810s. Noting the latest improvements in transport and accommodation, which had both become more comfortable in Europe during the previous thirty years, the guide covers most of mainland Europe. For each popular route Starke offers itineraries and journey times, as well as recommendations for sightseeing and the best inns. In particular, she offers advice to the many travellers of the time who sought to improve their health through a change of climate.
